Sampan Express - Victoria

The food at this restaurant is amazing, especially the chow suey and ginger-roasted pork. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend trying their food!

The restaurant is clean with small tables and TV monitors for dining in. The service is friendly and the food is displayed cafeteria-style for you to choose from. They offer a good selection of Cantonese, Szechuan, and vegetarian options. They also sell finished dishes (pumps, etc.) for you to take home and grill. My order only took 15 minutes, but like with all Chinese food, the oils started to separate after 10 minutes and it became a bit greasy in my opinion. It would be great if they had a good insulated container for takeout or could deliver within 5 minutes. The diced chicken moon gai ding was disappointingly small for the price. The bubble tea was sweet and reasonably priced. The location is convenient with plenty of parking. They offer delivery and are wheelchair accessible. I would give it 3.5 stars.

We have never had a disappointing meal at Sampan. We just wish they were still offering in-person dining in the Village. We had some truly unforgettable dinners there.

I had a frustrating experience at this restaurant when the staff couldn't hear me through the glass and I had to repeat myself multiple times. When I raised my voice to be heard, they became rude and obnoxious. I responded accordingly to their behavior. Making excuses for racism is not acceptable. Other reviews also indicate a pattern of rude service and racially based complaints at this establishment.

I attempted to order at the buffet line, but the server seemed unable to hear me. When I raised my voice, the owner approached with a scowling face and used a racist tone. It was clear that the owner is prejudiced against black and brown people and displayed extreme rudeness. I chose not to place an order and will never return to this racist establishment.
