What Rettey doesn't like about Restaurant Mee Wah:
Ordered from here through SkipTheDishes and should've read the reviews before we picked this restaurant. We ordered house special chow mein and house special fried rice that we're both average as well as spicy squid where they actually forgot to add the spices so it was just lumps of deep fried squid. The only dish that was pretty good was the prawns with Snow peas the prawns were cooked perfectly and the snow peas w... View all feedback.
This used to be my favourite Asian restaurant. Unfortunately, it changed hands and the only thing worse than the service is the food. Almost, but not quite, edible. Lukewarm, greasy and undercooked everything. Avoid this restaurant like the plague.
We ordered tonight because we were tired of cooking for ourselves (COVID isolation) and our favourite place is closed on Wednesdays. First off, we did not get what we ordered. The fried ginger beef was instead an unrecognizable dish with more onions than meat. And a TON of MSG. The wor wonton broth had zero flavour and the fried rice was equally unimpressive. This is not our first time trying Mee Wah, but it will absolutely be the last. If you have to add a huge slug of Soy sauce to the dish to make it remotely palatable there is a problem. No wonder they have such a low rating. You can do so much better in Victoria.
Visited this restaurant to see what it is like now after having had a number of new owners over the past few years. My friend and I pleasantly surprised. The decor is nondescript, pretty drab and even rundown looking but that is what attracted me because I know many Chinese would prefer to put more emphasis on the food than the decor. We only had two dishes, salt and pepper squid and beef and gai-lan and both were surprisingly excellent. The wait was not that long either and the waitress was very pleasant. What I also liked was that it had a bit of a Northern Chinese taste, which was kind of a nice contrast to the usual Cantonese fare I normally get in Victoria. I would definitely go again and also highly recommend this restaurant but as long as you know its just a step up from a hole in the wall restaurant.
We have ordered from this restaurant several times. The last order was not very well prepared, almost rushed and thrown together.
Food came delivered fast and nice and hot. Sweet and sour pork was fine. The almond chicken chop suey was not good it was mostly cubes of undercooked potatoes?!? Noodles were ok and garlic fried beef was kind of soggy with no spice to it.
