Masala Bites served us a lovely dinner, with more than ample portion sizes and proper spicing. Staff were very friendly, service very enjoyable, and the overall experience quite good. This restaurant is perhaps 1km from the tourist district and well worth the (very pleasant) walk. View all feedback.
What Zena Zieme doesn't like about Masala Bites:
It is impossible to get takeout because they never answer their phones. The last two times I have tried to order takeout from here I have called multiple times and they do not answer. The time before that I ordered delivery and they said it would be 45 mins and they did not show up for over two hours. It's too bad because the food is very good. It's just not worth the hassle. Food served hot, Taste not that great, Ok for quick bite Doubt if I will return, Service is fine. Tasted more like fast food.
My friends and I used to go here but stopped because although the food is delicious, *some* of the staff are so rude it's not worth it. I say some because there are always a few staff members who are friendly and polite but they never seem to last long. Meanwhile, there are some who have been there for a long time who are ridiculously rude. By rude I mean, you can show up and wait for a table and they'll look at you, and then ignore you for as long as they can get away with (I guess "I'll be with you in a minute" is too much to ask) and then look at you as if you've personally ruined their day by having the gall to show up and expect to, you know, sit at a table and order some food. If you're paying by credit card, they'll just drop the machine in front of you and just walk away. Or they'll go through the entire interaction without saying anything at all, no hello, please, thanks... You can ask them for something basic, like separate bills, and they'll sigh at you. That kind of thing. So we stopped going, but we used to order takeout because the food is really tasty and the delivery drivers are usually pretty friendly. This week I ordered takeout and was told it would arrive in 30-40 minutes. When it hadn't arrived after over an hour (and no phone call), I was going to call them but was going out with a friend soon so wouldn't have had time to eat it by that point anyway. I decided to call them anyway a little later just in case they tried to deliver it very late and I wasn't there. I called and said I had ordered food two hours ago and it never arrived, so in case it was running late, I wouldn't be there so to cancel it. The guy on the phone asked which street I lived on and then said that the driver had tried to deliver there an hour ago and called the phone number and I told them that I'd already received my food half an hour ago, so the driver brought it back and it was now going cold in the kitchen. I said I hadn't received a call so it must have been a mistake. He insisted that they had called me. I asked them what phone number they called and he read out my number. I confirmed it was my number but that I had received no phone call, and had my phone with me the entire time. To me it seemed pretty clear that the delivery driver must have called someone he'd already delivered to in error - easy mistake to make - but the guy on the phone was adamant that I had in fact taken a call and told the driver I already had my food. Then he said "So do you want the food now or what?" and I said I was going out so didn't need it. He just said "Ok, fine" and hung up. Utterly, utterly bizarre. So we don't go here anymore. It's very disappointing as the food is so good. I wish they would get better staff.
I asked a person of Indian lineage who sold me a mattress, which Indian restaurant would you say provides the most authentic representation of the Indian cuisine in the island? Thus I made a trip to Masala Bites, today's lunch buffet was priced at around $13 plus tax. Even if buffet is available, I always go for the best that restaurant may say their specialty. On this one, although a bit pricey, I went for Lamb Roganjosh. I think that's what it was called. My daughter ordered Goat curry, which was another choice I'd make.In every Indian restaurant, you'll appreciate the food more if they come out with wonderful rotis and naan bread. Masala Bites do make good breads, which are a delight. The curries, however, was a bit of a letdown. Although a good representation of Indian way of cooking curries, both goat and lamb was tipped more on the salty side of things. i mentioned this to the waiter and was told to write my comment and give him so he can hand it over to the owner. I thought, I'd rather write it down here.I haven't tried their buffet nor other offers but this is what I found out today.

We have been to Masala bites a lot of times. The first two times it was good and the service was good. But it all changed in our third visit. We were served terrible food. The service was reallasbad. The waiters especially have a priority to serve last for east Indians.wWe sent the back saying it was bad. They just got the same plate saying they have made it again. We asked for hot water and it was served only at the end of meal.Service by the waiters hopeless. Food is worst.
