It was a Friday night and we were wandering around looking for a nice place t... read more My partner and I had 3 nights in Vichy as part of a greater holiday around France. It was a Friday night and we were wandering around looking for a nice place to have a meal. Of all places we passed, Le 7 was the only one with more than two tables occupied. In fact, it was full, with more people wanting to get in. We entered and were promptly greeted by a waiter actually, the only waiter on. Surely someone had called in sick that night, because he was run off his feet. He sat us down at the only table left for two. Seeing as it was just him, we didn't mind that he took a few minutes at a time to bring us menus, bread, drinks, etc. But on to the food. Try pretty much any dish here and you will understand, as we did, why it was the only place that was packed late on a Friday night! For entrée, I had the black rice risotto with scallops amazing! My partner had the Millefeuille de Foire Gras, which she also loved. Our waiter, though reasonably young, was quite knowledgeable, and partnered what turned out to be an excellent Côtes du Rhône red to accompany. For main, I had the beef, my partner the quail, and again we loved it. We found the vegetables to be cooked especially well. The whole time there was an enjoyable, sometimes lively atmosphere of happy diners, mainly groups of family or friends. The prices were spot on for a provincial town producing meals of that quality. I'd definitely recommend an evening here if you find yourself in Vichy everywhere else will seem empty by comparison (especially if you don't come during summer! , and you'll realise why that is as soon as you taste your food.
