Passing through in December, we had a lovely walk in Vézelay. We weren't bothered by mass tourism at all, which was perfect. We ate at the only restaurant open, and we weren't disappointed at all. We had veal paupiettes with tagliatelle and an excellent sauce, all homemade. And of course, an equally excellent dessert. The young woman who served us was very friendly and welcoming. The service was very quick. Stop by if you enjoy authentic and wholesome cuisine. Thank you!
We ate there this summer. Arriving quite late, around 2 pm, we were kindly seated on the terrace. The wait was short, and the service was very friendly, pleasant, and relaxed. The dishes were delicious and approved by everyone (there were four of us: a teenager, a child, an elderly person, and myself), enjoyed by all ages. Please don't change a thing. It feels so good to eat simple, tasty food in beautiful places that still exude our history and culinary traditions. Thank you.
I've been a regular at this establishment at various times of the year for years. Five stars every time I've been inside. I love the rustic decor with the old posters. One star for my last visit, sitting on the terrace in October. The waitress left another terrace, and we sat down. And then nothing. Thirty minutes passed, and I decided to go inside to place my order. I told them I'd been waiting outside for a long time, and then they informed me that orders were taken at the bar and that there was a sign. The owner came out to show me where the sign was. It was simply invisible to anyone coming from the basilica or the new gate. Before leaving, I pointed out that the sign wasn't visible. The owner told me that people were leaving without being served, but it wasn't a problem since there were only two of them. Neither of them came out to tell us to come back in to order. The young waitress bore the brunt of my displeasure over a poorly placed sign. I was thoroughly displeased with the owner's disdain for her customers. Le Vézelien is a Vézelay institution, and I think it's a shame to project this image.
