Chaya Modern Izakaya - Venice

Excellent food, very appealing interior and very friendly staff.

The food was good over all but the veg. options are limited and the Tofu dish was not at all what I expected; it came totally uncooked with only some light toppings a terrible replacement of what used to be an excellent Veg./vegan friendly Tempe dish.

The food was delicious. We attended Chaya for a company gathering and I would not recommend this restaurant for that type of occasion. We had 11 people and our waiter suggested we do family style . I was disappointed in this recommendation. Each dish we ordered was enough for one individual so we kept having to place orders for more food even though our waiter told us originally each plate would serve 3-4 people, this was a lie. Not to mention, we had to ask five times for serving utensils. For some reason the kitchen kept bringing out one plate at a time, so at one point we had 11 people sharing one piece of salmon. I would definitely go back here because the food was delicious but I don 't recommend sharing plates with a group of more than 4 people.

Our neighborhood gem. This visit was last Saturday night, when one mentally ill person started screaming at the top of her lungs and appeared disoriented. She was incoherently speaking and yelling. The police arrived, and, were very, very patient in escorting her out of the premises. Not one patron left because of this incident. The management worked hard not to incite her, it all was over in about 20 minutes. These are common incidents now a days. Will still keep coming to this outstanding restaurant.
