Trattoria San Toma - VENEZIA

We had a really lovely meal here .The food was excellent at a fair price . It had a friendly ambiance and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend the Venetian liver which was delicious .It also serves very good seafood .Good choice of wine . Roger and Sara Mitchell

We had visited on a number of occasions under the previous management and enjoyed eating there. This time the atmosphere seemed a little changed and subdued. The food was good and priced ok…we didn’t have any drinks (apart from water). The waiting staff seemed slightly highly strung but pleasant to us. It just seemed a bit low key on this occasion but of course it was November so much quieter than normal.

The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere in the square but the food was below average. Perhaps we did not order the best on the menu and would have had better experience if choose differently. I ordered a penne pasta dish that was very tasty but the pasta did not taste freshly made. Reminded me of boxed pasta from home. My husband ordered a pizza that was not cooked all the way. The middle of the pie was soggy. Also no olive oil or balsamic was brought to the table with bread.

So good, we went twice. You know somewhere is good when it is filled with the locals. Super helpful staff and delicious food. Great house wine as well.

We really enjoyed this trattoria many times under the leadership of Antonio but we were told on this visit that he had retired and, to be honest, after our latest visit we won 't be back. The menu was 'tweaked ' so there was very little for me as a vegetarian. My wife had a meat dish which she said was tasty enough for what it was, but it was a rather sparce plate. The delicious rosemarino potatoes were no longer on the menu and neither boiled potatoes not chips appealed to her! We 'd been told one of the staff, Mario was still employed though he wasn 't around the night we were and also that the pizza chef was still employed in the kitchen though he was not in evidence the night we ate there either . Possibly the chef that night was better at Chinese noodles. Pizza was not his forte! No one suggested vegetables to go with my wife 's meal and I very rarely leave food on my plate but I did that night! It was all a rather uncomfortable, if not bizarre, experience. Antonio 's son in law, Danielli, still behind the bar was very pleasant and charming, but we wonder why the baton was not passed to him rather than handed over to the Chinese who are good at what they do but food in an Venetian Trattoria was not it.
