Service and food were below average. Waitress rattled off the antipasto special without explanation of pricing. There was a menu posted outside that I never received. I ordered an octopus salad that was full of celery which I don 't eat and had to pick out and just a little arugula. Nowhere was it described as an octopus-celery salad! Portion was small for the price. Wine pour was good but I was charged €2 more than the price on the menu. I was not expecting the €3 service charge . I would definitely not return to this establishment. It was a €30 lunch that was most disappointing. Might have been worth 1/2 that.
We had never visited Burano before, knowing only that it was known for its painted houses and lacemaking. As we meandered the winding canals of beautiful Burano taking photos, we happened on SU e ZO, which looked like a perfect, quiet spot for a bite of lunch. Sitting outside, we were greeted warmly by two serving staff who furnished us with flat water and aperitifs. What to eat when everything looked so good at the tables around us proved to be a tough choice. Fortunately, at the next table a couple indulged in the degustazione fish delight, a platter of fish cicchetti for two for €58. We decided to roll up our sleeves and go for it. This had to be the most toothsome lunch we had in a long time. The platter (a tasting menu) included calamari, octopus, shrimp, and sardines all prepared in several delectable sauces and tasty two scoops of cod on crusted bread. Amazingly tasty, but not overly spiced. The platter was so good we went for two more plates for €20 more and we not disappointed! The second plate was a medley of shrimp and 3 oysters, the latter grilled to firmness and spiced to perfection!!!! Finally, a bowl of boiled/steamed mussels and clams that were also wonderful. Each bite from these three dishes garnered a wow in terms of texture and flavor. Service was warm and friendly, reflecting the l 'esprit de cour of Burano. If you find yourself in Burano, keep walking along the main canal away from the Campanella and just before it ends you find Su e Zo da Amos on your right, at S. Mauro 25, a gem of Burano that will complete your visit to this wonderful little island in Venice!
The lasagna… close your eyes and picture Chef Boyardee ravioli. Spot on. I expect more from a high end restaurant. Lasagna from the Olive Garden is a notch better.
We had a wonderful meal, thanks to Moira. We ordered the fish for two, as did our friends. Magnificent. The white wine was inexpensive but as good as some twice the price. The shade was welcome, as was the breeze off the canal. One of the best meals we had while in Venice.
