Flor do Jardim - Velas

It will not win reviews for quality food however its a lively place, keenly priced and OK food. Lots of locals gave it a buzz.

First time I ate here was OK. I had a Hamburger Flor de Jardim and that was really tasty and the french fries were really nice and crispy. The second time I tried a pizza. Well, this was not very good. The pastry was a bit dry and the sauce was barely enough to fill the pizza. The third time we tries the hamburger Flor de Jardim again while waiting for the ferry to go to Pico Island. This time the burger was not the same quality as the first. More greasy and the french fries definitely were baked at lunch and re-fried for us to eat them at dinner so we sent those back and had to wait a long time for new fresh ones.

Located at the Jardim de republica the pub/restaurant is easy to find. We had a good meal and the staff was fast and friendly. On a friday night after dinner the place gets filled with local people having a drink, giving a nice atmosphere.

It's a great view of the lovely park in Velas and the servers are very helpful. We can't really review the food because it has been years since we have had opportunity to actually eat there as we are mostly at the other end of the island when we are on Sao Jorge.

Opposite the gardens this restaurant is a lot better than its outside appearance. Food was well cooked and generous portion served by a friendly waitress. Menu slightly uninspiring. Worth trying
