Fornos de Lava - Toledo

O restaurante é muito acolhedor, o atendimento é fantástico e a comida é soberba! Recomendo!

Um jantar a repetir certamente, o local é simplesmente lindo, com atmosfera aconchegante e romântica. A cataplana de peixe estava divinal.

Chegámos à hora de abertura para o jantar. O restaurante estava vazio e um pouco frio. A iluminação é fraca nalgumas mesas. Escolhemos uma mesa com iluminação próxima o que ajudou a ver o que estávamos a comer. Ficámos perto da salamandra que estava acesa o que tornou o ambiente mais agradável. De entrada comemos um excelente queijo de São Jorge acompanhado de um pãozinho quente. Escolhemos uma Cataplana de peixe com ameijoas que estava bastante agradável. O tempo de confeção foi de aproximadamente 1:00 H. Infelizmente encontrámos algumas escamas o que é bastante desagradável e inadmissível num restaurante com estes preços. O leite creme estava excelente. Fomos os únicos a jantar e no final tivemos uma conversa muito agradável com a proprietária que penso ser também a cozinheira. Recomendo.

We thought we could walk to this place!! If you take the ferry from Pico you MUST take a taxi. It is at the top of the hill. Felt like a mountain. Nice family restaurant with good view. Staff did not welcome us nicely. We just stood there and had to introduce ourselves. Food was acceptable nothing special. The best part of the meal was the starter….homemade bread baked with sausage. The bread is baked with small bits of sausage inside. Order a couple as your starter. Our main course was the fish and shrimp in the tangine. Needed more seasoning. Perhaps even some salt but I hated to ask. Our server had very little personality but was polite. We always enjoy more friendly staff at restaurants but she was quite disinterested. A change from most restaurants we had been to on Pico. It was fun to have so many children and families in the place. My husband tried the “encharcada” specialty dessert and did not like it. Very sweet and odd texture. Others adore it so just a preference. My crème brûlée was good not great. Good atmosphere but just acceptable food. Some staff looked friendly. Our server was not.

Absolutely nothing great about the place. Food undercooked. Service really not welcoming. Had much much better meals and service at the simple snack bar at Calheta port.
