The Hardware Store
Description
This restaurant presents a varied experience, with many diners finding inconsistency in both service and food quality. While some praise dishes like the mac ’n cheese and specialty omelet, others complain of pretentious prices coupled with disappointing meals, such as bland clam chowder and stale breakfast items. Service has garnered mixed reviews, highlighting moments of robotic efficiency and insufficient attention. Despite this, the ambiance is often noted as inviting, especially during busier times. Overall, while there's potential for a pleasant dining experience, guests are advised to approach with caution, especially on weekdays.

Where to begin? First the guy serves me cognac in a glass with unwanted ice cubes. Then he takes it out and the cognac upon return is cold. Then the clam chowder is potato soup with warm milk and almost no visible clams. I am from New England. The crab cakes would not be allowed in Maryland. Overpriced joint with robotic service and just awful food.
We arrived late at night for a bite to eat and a cocktail. The service and atmosphere were cozy and inviting. The Maple Old Fashioned Cocktails were good, but not exceptional. They were well-balanced with a pleasant maple flavor, but lacked the classic Old Fashioned burn. The menu offered a mix of unique and standard Pacific Northwest dishes such as crab cakes, bison and fries, burgers, and fish and chips. We decided to try the fish and chips (a staple at Washington island restaurants) but unfortunately, they did not meet our expectations. While other Yelp reviews praised perfectly breaded fish, ours had a grainy cornmeal coating that was unpleasant.
The food was delicious and the service was friendly. However, the prices were a bit high for the portion sizes. The interior had a pleasant atmosphere.
