This is our go-to Izakaya in Vancouver. Very cozy, very intimate setting. I would rate their hot foods over the cold: the sashimi selection is rather limited, but good quality nevertheless. Their strength seems to be their hot kitchen: skewered meats and deep fried chicken/prawns are all excellent. Word of caution: make sure to make reservations! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Zakkushi Dining on Main:
I have seen restaurants of this type all over downtown Vancouver. These are "hole in the wall" restaurants that always seem to have long line-ups of students waiting to get into them. My friend and I thought we would try Zakkushi on Main prior to going to a ballgame at the park close to the restaurant. This is not my type of restaurant. The tables are all jammed together, the restaurant is very noisy and the food def... View all feedback.
After returning from our trip to Japan, I was unsure if I would find an izakaya in Vancouver that I really enjoyed (not a big fan of Hapa Izakaya). I decided it was time to visit Zakkushi as I had heard good things about them. The restaurant only serves dinner and was quite busy when we arrived on a Monday night. The menu was overwhelming with so many choices, so we ended up ordering a variety of items. They also had a good selection of drinks, with my favorite being the Pure Blue ($5.80) made with Bols blue curaçao, lychee liqueur, Calpico, and soda. The Lychee Orange ($4.80) made with lychee liqueur and orange juice was also delicious.
Recently, my girlfriend wanted to capture some food pictures, so I suggested we dine here for some delicious 'food porn'. The service at this restaurant is always pleasant, and they pay close attention to the details in their dishes. While the prices can add up quickly, the dining experience is sure to be memorable. It's a great spot for date nights, but I recommend making a reservation as it tends to get very busy.
We ordered takowasabi, zakkushi set, uzura maki, mochi maki, beef tongue, and mentai kimchi yakiudon. The food came out quickly. The takowasabi was spicier than expected and could have used more seaweed. The beef tongue was a bit chewy. The quail egg skewer was delicious and the mochi maki was enjoyable with its crispy and chewy textures. I appreciated the variety in the zakkushi set, although I didn't care for the sauce on the umeshio yaki. The yakiudon was decent but I have had better elsewhere. Overall, the food was tasty but can be pricey depending on your choices. I would return when I want skewers again. Definitely worth a try!
Been there many times, never got disappointed. One of my go to place for Japanese BBQ. Food quality always steady. Love their chicken tsukune!
My boyfriend and I recently had a meal at Zakkushi on Main that was so good, we couldn't stop thinking about it the next day. I had heard of Zakkushi before, but it slipped my mind until my uncle recommended it one night.
