Heading west on 2nd Avenue, I often missed the restaurants on the other side of the street. But Yume Dining caught my eye when I searched for vongole pasta on Google. Since we were nearby, we decided to try something new. We ordered three dishes—far too much, especially since the Tofu Mohawk was huge and clearly meant for two people. However, ordering only that dish would have made the meal unbalanced, as it lacked enough greens or vegetables. The Salmon sashimi that accompanied the Salmon Salad was buttery but looked a bit limp. I usually prefer my Hamachi sashimi very cold and firm, but theirs didn’t meet that expectation. While I enjoyed the salad leaves, I didn’t like the dressing. My homemade carrot ginger dressing doesn’t include raw onion and has triple the ginger to avoid overpowering flavors. Unfortunately, this dressing’s strong raw onion taste lingered all day, even after coffee at Milano Coffee Roasters, which was quite unpleasant. We wouldn’t order the Tofu Mohawk again. I had originally planned to try the pasta with clams but wasn’t keen on spicy oil, cream, or garlic, and my partner wasn’t interested in clams that day. The online menu didn’t show sukiyaki, but we saw others enjoying it, so that’s likely what we’d try next time. The restaurant’s interior was clean and pleasant. Service was a bit off—we had to repeat our drink order twice, and I’m not sure why the first request was overlooked. Also, I appreciate when servers gently warn if you’ve ordered too much, but that didn’t happen here. It seemed they’re used to customers who can eat large portions. It would have been helpful to get a heads-up since half the tofu was wasted. We weren’t heading home immediately, so leftovers would have spoiled in the car trunk. Plus, deep-fried breaded tofu soaks up a lot of oil, and reheating it properly at home would be tricky without drying it out. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $70–80 Vegetarian options: Plain veg udon, Garden Salad, Mango Salad, Tofu Mohawk (for two), Veggie Futomaki (unsure if vegan mayo is used), Cream Mango Futomaki Parking: Paid street parking
