I must admit that Thai food isn't usually my go-to option, as many local restaurants I've visited often make the dishes overly sweet for my liking. However, after hearing excellent reviews about a relatively new Thai restaurant in Kitsilano called Unchai, which is praised for its less sweet offerings, I was excited to give it a shot.
Food: 7/10Value: 6/10Service: 10/10Location: Paid street parking onlyI really wanted to like this place based on reviews. I love Thai food and wanted another place to frequent. But it was just ok. Some of the stuff lacked flavour. The best thing we ordered was the pad thai. The soup noodles were good too. Ordered a little of everything because I wanted to try it all. They had a very small menu.Value wise portion sizes were quite small for the price.Service is awesome. It’s an open kitchen and they warn you about it right as you step in. They worry the smell may get on your clothes. Very friendly service!Overall I don’t think I would drive out of my way to visit this place again.
I’m pretty picky with my Asian food. I was excited to try this place, but I’m extremely disappointed. I ordered the Pad Thai and Gang Kua curry through UberEats. The Pad Thai is dry and clumped together with no sauce. The curry is tasteless and tiny in portion for a $30 item. Complete waste of money!PS. If you want good Thai food, go to Taste of Thai on Broadway.
Some of the best Thai food that I’ve ever had, tried a few things and all of them were outstanding, especially the ones that we got crab prawns with. The prawns are ginormous here and cooked perfectly.I can’t wait to go back and try some more of their dishes. Everything feels very traditional and made with care. They only have three tables inside for seating, so it’s more of a take out spot. But if I lived close to here I’d order regularly for sure. The staff is all very passionate and it shows through their food too.
My goodness, the food here is incredible. Maybe the biggest black tiger prawns I've ever encountered? And all the dishes full of flavour and authentically spicy ?Most of our dishes were served in takeaway pots, but if you're only after white cloth service you're sorely missing out
