Sushiyama - Vancouver

I was a little skeptical when I first came into this restaurant because of the photos on yelp and the 3 stars.

I've been here three times since I moved to the area and I'm not sure why they have such high reviewsYou get what you pay for here.

Feeling hungry at 11pm?You are a traveler in uptown Vancouver, limited in options of good food due to the late hours? Especially if you are craving for a bit of sushi and sashimi, go here.It's definitely my first time to eat sushi in north america with servers speaking korean :)But that's not my point here.I've been eating sushi and sashimi in Jakarta, Singapore, Hongkong, Tokyo, Sapporo (list in order intended) and this is quite comparable to Singapore and maybe Hongkong. But with the price and portion? I'm not surprise many other reviewers praised this joint as the best bang for the buck.I can offer them a bit of advice, the sashimi slice in the Yama's Omakase sashimi is way too thick. I lost most of the goodness of the fish texture from the sashimi in a big thick chew that way. The good thing is that their 'uni' (sea urchin) is not bad at all!At 11.30pm, there were still waiting lines of 4-5 people.Check out opening hours since they close briefly in the afternoon between 3.30-4.30pm. Opens 11.30am.

Coming here when I feel hungry at night, especially sometimes finish work after 8pm. Taking order and dish out efficiently. Sushi pizza is the one I have been craving for every time. I love the mixing taste by crispy rice pizza bottom + topping crab meat mixing with avocado + the salmon and tuna sashimi on the very top of each slice. $$ is low. Satisfied everytime.
