What Jason Huels doesn't like about Kirin Restaurant:
Having been traveling for 6 weeks, I was craving Chinese food. Kirin was highly recommended by my hotel so I walked over to check it out. I ordered spring rolls and a two course Peking duck entree. The spring rolls were okay. The two course duck consisted of 1) crispy skin with pancakes and 2) a minced hash-like duck meat second course served with lettuce leaf for rolling. The duck was very good (skin crispy, meat fl... View all feedback.
When we go out for dinner, we look for high quality foods, good service, nice atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Vancouver downtown Kirin is the place to go to. You get exceptional service, towards high end atmosphere settings, and it is not a pricey restaurant. Or let's put it this way, you get what you pay for. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who has expectations for their dining experience.Parking: Downtown Kirin has free underground parking.

Upscale Chinese restaurant with average food and very shady service. Portions weren't that big for the price. Wouldn't go back since food wasn't that great. We called to book a table for 9 people, they confirmed the table for 9 people. When we arrived they led us to a table for 9 people and let us order the soups. While we were waiting, another waitress came and asked us to order a minimum $800 for the table. We asked them the reason .. they said because the table is for VIP. We said: we were not informed anything about VIP table or anything extra service charge when we booked. Then she said never mind. We already sat and ordered soups so we decided to ordered 2 more dishes, and finished the dinner unhappily. And the waitress were always rushed. We had 9 people but they only served 6 bowls of soup, the waitress left quickly and we had to wait and technically called other waiter to ask for extra bowls. When we paid the bill, it turned out .. they thought we were tourists ? anyway if you’re a tourist, be careful!
Absolutely horrible service. We were traveling with friends and this restaurant was HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The food was good to start with but the servers and even the manager are extremely rude. Additionally, we asked for a recommendation for Saki and the manager oversold a bottle that was 3 times as much as the one we would have chosen. To add insult to injury, towards the end of the meal, we ordered one more round of their Spring Rolls because they were very good. THEY WERE COLD AND FROZEN IN THE CENTER!!! This tells me that their food is not freshly made, and I guess they didn’t MICROWAVE them long enough. Save your money and go to the freezer section at your market. I am sure you can find most their dishes there. It is unfortunate because most of the dishes were good. There are better Chinese restaurants in Vancouver. Do not waste your time or money.
Highly recommended for authentic Cantonese Dimsum. Order the classics: prawn dumplings, bbq pork buns, sticky rice in lotus leaf, spring rolls. The original restaurant is in Richmond, but the Alberni St one is where we went.
