Excellent food and an elegant atmosphere. Although these dishes are classic in certain ways, there's a lot of subtle originality to the spicing. The papaya salad was very fresh in flavor. My tip would be to order the "Jitlada Aroy-D" special creation. I've eaten a lot of Thai food but not studied the cuisuine--perhaps this isn't wholly original but I've never had anything like it before. We chose the versions with prawns and they went really well with the extremely-quick cooked spinach; a really interesting and delicious main course.
Jitlada is a favourite of ours for family dinners and meals with friends. The great thing about Jitlada is that it's great for a nice meal if you want to take some friends out, without being too too fancy. For appetizers, we usually have the spring rolls, tom yum soup with prawns, stuffed chicken wings (SO GOOD!), and papaya salad. And for the main dishes, we get the seafood coconut curry which comes in a coconut (also very delicious), garlic pork, pad see ew (similar to pad thai), mixed vegetables, and massaman curry. Everything we've eaten here is so delicious, which is why we always do family style sharing, to get a taste of everything. I highly recommend this restaurant! Oh, and don't forget dessert. The mango sticky rice is amazing (although seasonal because of the mangoes). And to drink, the Thai iced tea never disappoints.
Best Thai food outside of Thailand and great service. Nice relax atmosphere and best to ask what's the special of the day.
Great spot. Unexpected high level of cuisine for a small neighbourhood. Great green papaya salad with enough heat not to hide the freshness of the papaya. One of the best Pad Thai I have eaten. Good service from an attentive staff. Treated to a complimentary desert. The wine list is not extensive but diverse and affordable. I will return for sure!
It always happens - if you approach a place for the first time, based only on a number of rather favourable TripAdvisor reviews - it is easy to get the expectations propped up and potentially exposed to tumbling down.We had Saturday night reservations at 5:30pm, but our theatre got out early, and we were the first table to arrive shortly after opening at 5:00pm. Our hostess, server and Owner- all the same - was very hospitable and welcoming. Although it was the hottest day of the year thus far, we had to ask for water, which we needed. It promptly arrived, in nice glasses and very cold and refreshing. We ordered a couple drinks, and they were nicely prepared and presented. We ordered a couple appetizers and a couple main courses. The whole perch, with their special sauce, sounded nice, but they had run out the night before. We both couldn't quite understand why they would not replace their supply, prior to the start of Saturday night patrons. A few minutes later, as other customers arrived, we heard other explanations of being out of stock. Our impression at this point was that as nice as Jitlada was on the surface, it was perhaps being run on a shoestring budget and not being managed quite up to par.Of the 4 dishes we ordered, the Spring Rolls were the only ones we would order again. The Stuffed Chicken Wings were ok, but nothing special. We had had stuffed chicken wings at Emeril's NOLA restaurant in New Orleans, and while perhaps an unfair comparison, we thought these might come close. They didn't. The skin wasn't particularly crispy, the stuffing just ok and the sauce quite bland. The Chicken and Cashew Nuts had a nice flavour, but there was very little chicken and mainly vegetables. The Seafood Chowder was flavourful, but after all was said and done, we felt we should have just ordered a red or green curry dish.About 45 minutes after we arrived, a number of other tables had filled up, particularly a large party of 14. We were happy that we were ready to head out, as our poor server was on her own and we were afraid things were going to get awfully slow.In conclusion, we would likely order differently next time, and the choices might be very good and better then what we had on this occasion. On the other hand, there are lots of other choices and there may very well not be a next time.
