This was one of our favourite brunch experiences on our trip. Super laid back place, sunny service, and some real gems on the menu. Delicious bennies for sure, but the star was the banana chocolate chip French toast. Wow. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Jethro's Fine Grub:
I came here with my family for breakfast this morning. We had called beforehand and asked if they could accommodate a larger group (7) and they said yes. When we got there the waitress told us to wait outside until the rest of our party arrived, even though there was two large tables that we could have sat at inside that were empty. When we decided it was too cold outside we wanted to wait inside and drink some coffe... View all feedback.
Menu highlights included Jethro's French Toast, featuring thick cut challah bread dipped in egg and griddled crisp, topped with whipped butter. The bread was wonderfully soaked in batter and tasted amazing. The price was CAD 8 AED 22, with a rating of 5. Another standout dish was Grandma's Pancakes, with cinnamon apples baked into buttermilk pancake batter, topped with streusel and served with whipped butter. The warm apples and crunchy streusel paired perfectly, and the addition of butter made the dish even more delicious. The price was CAD 13 AED 36.
I’ve heard through the grapevine that Jethro’s got big portions to satisfy any large breakfast cravings that you may have. Multi-stack pancakes the size of your plate? Gigantic omelettes? I thought there must be some exaggeration to the claims but little did I know, they were far from exaggerated.
This is a casual diner located serving up Southern style comfort food in big portions. I had previously visited their Dunbar location, which had unfortunately recently closed down. During my visit to their Fraser location, I got their Rooster Pancakes a side of Biscuits Gravy, and a side of their Pulled Pork. While I was disappointed in the pulled pork, which I found to be very bland, their Rooster Pancakes and Biscuits Gravy were quite good, and served in very generous portions I'm a big eater, and I still had enough food left over for a second meal. The service is also very good for the type of place it is: the server I had was very friendly and attentive. All in all, I'd recommend checking this place out for some affordable and reasonably tasty diner food. Just be warned, they do only take cash or debit I know that their site appears to say they accept visa as well, but that's not the case).<br/ <br/ The Rooster $14):<br/ 3.5/5<br/ This consisted of two buttermilk pancakes that are stuffed with chocolate chips and are topped with whipped cream. Jethro's are known for having probably the largest pancakes in Vancouver, with each pancake being about 2 3 times larger than most places. I quite liked the texture, with the pancakes being quite light and fluffy. Previously, I've had issues with the overpowering flavour of baking soda; this time around, it actually wasn't nearly as bad I could still taste it, but it wasn't nearly as strong). I loved the chocolate chips, which were sweet and gooey I do wish that they had more of it present. I do have to mention that the top pancake is better than the bottom one, which is much flatter perhaps from being squished by the top one) and smaller. Of course, with all the other food that I had ordered, I was not able to make much of a dent into my pancakes and ended up taking most of the dish home in their pizza sized boxes.<br/ <br/ Side Biscuits Gravy $6):<br/ 3.5/5<br/ This consisted of two large pieces of biscuits smothered in gravy. The gravy was a bit overly thick, but was not gummy and still quite enjoyable. The biscuits had quite a hard outer crust you can't cut through it; you have to pick the biscuit up and bite it), but a relatively tender interior. While neither the biscuits nor the gravy were particularly salty on its own, I did find that when eaten together it does get a bit too much and I'm one who loves salt). It is quite filling, and a very good deal for only $6.<br/ <br/ Side Pulled Pork $4):<br/ 2.5/5<br/ The pork was quite tender and juicy. Unfortunately, it was seriously underseasoned: it was just flavourless and bland on its own. I did enjoy it with my side of biscuits however.<br/ <br/ Summary:<br/ Food: 3/5<br/ Price: 4/5<br/ Service: 4/5<br/ Overall: 3.5/5<br/ Recommendations: Rooster Pancakes, Biscuits Gravy, Banana Bread French Toast from previous visit)
Jethros Fine Grub has good food with an all day breakfast. It is not open for supper. It was cramped and noisy inside, and I suspect that the small capacity is the reason the chairs are so rock hard: to keep people from just sitting there with their mobile phone or talking instead of eating while others wait outside. I do not recommend the 'La Nina ' Eggs Benedict because it is rather soggy, but the other Eggs Benedict dishes are good.
Very very filling! Really small place so be prepared to lineup! Pretty good food, very flavourful, borderline salty but still worth it! I highly suggest the pancakes!!
