It has been many years since we have gone to I Cafe, last time was when they were on 8th Ave. We had the Singapore noodles. It was decent, not too spicy or oily. A bit smaller portion though for the price. Their deep fried chicken wings were nice and crispy, again not oily which was good. The place needs a serious makeover however. The entrance and interior decor seem dated and old. View all feedback.
What Velva Schaden doesn't like about I Cafe:
After a late meeting ended around 9:15 PM, we were looking for a late sit down dinner venue. I Cafe is around the corner of where we were. We were greeted reluctantly received by a manager who was not enthusiastic about seeing us. We inquired if the restaurant was closed but he replied coldly that it will be closed by 10pm, and that we have to vacate by 10:30pm. There were two other tables visible. We sat down, order... For the past little while I have been on a Mission! My mission is to re-discover the remaining HK Style Cafes in the Greater Vancouver area. Once a popular genre or variation of Chinese cuisine in Vancouver , it has its golden days when just in Chinatown alone there are at least a dozen or so of this type of restaurants, but with the demise of Hong Kong immigrants coming to Canada, this also is on the decline. i Cafe has been one of the newer ones about 15 years ago, but now it is one of the remaining originals . Food here is of good quality and portion size, the price is at par with most others, a few items may be slightly more expensive due to its location on the West side of Vancouver. Star items: Grilled Steak with Black Peppercorn Sauce served on sizzling hot plate Rich and pungent, the sauce is the soul of this dish, the steak here is of good quality and I would say its even safe to order it medium rare. I also like the accompanying fries, dipping them in the peppercorn sauce is heaven! Most of their HK style baked dishes are also recommended: Baked Fish Fillet with Spinach in Cream sauce is another classic done very well here, with the sauce being not to heavy and is just perfect with the fried rice that comes with it. I am glad that after all these years, there are still a solid HK Style Cafe left in the West side of Vancouver!!
This restaurant has been located here for years You have to be competitive and have good quality food to survive along this strip where there are lots of fast food chain and good eatery places to choose from This is our first time here as our friend recommend this place We were not disappointed The luncheon menu offers many variety including soup of the day, the main entree in forms of rice, noodles, vermicelli, sphaghetti etc, followed by the HK style drink( mixture of coffee and tea, The service was OK, but the portion is adequate, the quality of the food is good It opens at 11am, since it is on a Sunday, there is a line waiting at 12 noon The environment is OK with glass window looking down Broadway..
If you’re seeking a Hong Kong style cafe, this is it. A weird combo of Chinese food and Asian served on one plate. One of us had the cod special with a choice of white rice or spaghetti. Also came with a soup (borscht)dinner roll, and tea/coffee. Interestingly it came with spaghetti sauce on the cod and plain spaghetti on the side. A couple of us played it safe and had the Singapore vermicelli noodles. They do have the authentic drinks only found in Hong Kong cafes such as the hot coke cola, hot lemon or Ovaltine. Portions were a decent size. Noodle dishes averaged about $15. It’s located on the 2nd floor on Heather and West Broadway. Call ahead of time to find out where their parking is which is limited to 5 spots.
Went with friends again for lunch. the menu is limited to typical HK style cafes and there is lunch menu which is slightly higher than other HK cafes. Quality is not bad but portions are slightly smaller. if you want parking, make sure you go before 1230 as this is a very busy area for vancouver.
Friends recommended this place so we’d thought we’d try it out... pretty good food, but prices are slightly higher than typical HK cafe... portions are decent and have some special dishes. Worth a try... seating is comfortable with booths and tables and have a nice view of vancouver since this located on the 2nd floor on broadway...
