What User doesn't like about House Special Modern Vietnamese:
The food is good, but the portions were very tiny. I know that I should not compare the price with regular Viet places but I feel that the value is just not there. View all feedback.
I've tried most of the many Vietnamese restaurants in Yaletown and this one has the best pho! Service was friendly and pleasant.
The food was tasty enough, though the menu was rather limited. But the service was decidedly sub-par. Enough to make the whole experience sour for my wife and I. My entree was delivered a long time before my wife's. Not a minute or two. Many minutes. No explanation, no apology. No communication. This must have been partly the cook's fault. He clearly didn't know or care that the two order were together. But the waitress was also clueless. (I ended up tipping her 15,% and regretted it as soon as I left. Bad service should not be rewarded, but I rarely have the nerve to stiff anyone. Especially in a country not my own.)As far as the prices go. though my dish was quite good, I was slightly annoyed that a vegetable plate priced at $17 only came with rice if you paid another two bucks. (And, if I recall correctly, the menu did not mention it.) The decor was fine, but the atmosphere was diminished by loud, boring music, heavy on drums, kind of like rock muzak.

The food here is tasty and inventive, and relatively inexpensive, and the service is friendly. If you want something healthy, try the vegan pho or the garden rolls. For just delicious, try the fried bread with filling. You can also try the trendy cocktails.
Very modern atmosphere for a Vietnamese restaurant in Yaletown. We very much enjoyed their mango salad which was served in an edible cracker shell, house special pho which was not too salty, and the popular shaken beef dish. The mekong monsoon was a yummy lychee cocktail and they had a good selection of beer. We would definitely return. The service was excellent and friendly.
