Went there for the first time today. Didn't know it existed, as it's hidden in the basement.Excellent food, attentive service.Arancini were gorgeous, sauce was on a spicier side (as Arabiata should be), I loved it.Panna Cotta is to die for. Absolutely will come back for more.Papardelle looked amazing, so will need to try. View all feedback.
What Sister Kovacek doesn't like about Grotto:
I had a totally fine experience here. The service was fine, the food, well there wasn't anything wrong with it. But I wasn't wowed and it was dark and cold (I kept my jacket on) in the restaurant. No complaints, but no reason to go back either. View all feedback.
I can't say enough great things about how great the food is at this great place that serves great food.
Absolutely fantastic quality of pasta and extremely flavorable pasta dishes and desserts. Great value also. Will be returning soon.
Service was friendly, and we enjoyed the two appetizers of watermelon salad as well as the tomato tart.
Grotto Restaurant is a hidden gem. You will not find fancy napkins or tablecloths here, however what you will find instead is Fantastic Food and Super Friendly and Fun staff. We had Tuna Carpaccio and Bruschetta to start (simply Amazing!), followed by Pesto Chicken Pizza (as close to the pizza we had in Rome as you can get), Cod with Orzo Salad (Cod was done to perfection) and Paperdelle (beautiful balance of flavours and ingredients). Everything was perfection (compliments to the Chef ).I can't recommend this restaurant enough. This is definitely a must visit place for anyone interested in relaxed dining filled with fantastic food and friendly staff. And as an added bonus, the restaurant is located just two minutes away from English Bay.5 Stars.
This concealed location with an interesting menu, an interesting waiter and a cook of unusual quality was introduced to me by Groupon. The menu had several contenders for my hearts desire but on opting for Humboldt squid, exquisitely cooked and presented grilled on a bed of kale with a an excellent caper sauce with olives and other delights and a good portion at that, I did not regret the choice. For the main course I choose the seafood fettucini, with mussels, squid, shrimp. tomatoes on a bed of pasta and drizzled in olives, capers and shallots, this was delicious and did not cause me to regret the similarity of choice to the first course... This similarity was in some of the ingredients but not the flavour. My partner was similarily enchanted by the ling cod on orzo salad. I did opt for desert, but t was standard fare unlike the excellence of the first two dishes. Wonderful meal.
