Stopped in after lunch in July for a gelato break. The gelato bar was full of flavourful gelatos and sorbets. The salted caramel and amarena cherry were very delicious. The staff was friendly and provided quick service. It’s inexpensive compared to its competitors. Just a short walk from the yaletown roundhouse train station. View all feedback.
What lila wu doesn't like about Grand Chinese Yaletown:
I ordered delivery, 10 pork and chive boiled dumplings for lunch. The dumplings were raw on the inside. Literally, raw pork. It was still slimy. I ate the first one whole, noticed it tasted weird, and had a strange texture. I didn't want to spit it out in front of all my coworkers. I got home and boiled them just to make sure. They were definitely raw. I can still taste it now : . View all feedback.
I never write reviews ever. I just never found a restaurant where I felt that the food or experience was exceptional....that is until now. I have ordered from GCY at least a dozen times now. Recently, I 've been ordering their lunch specials. Wow!! It was incredible. The portions are huge, the food is fresh, the quality and taste is always consistent. Oh and it 's like $12.00!!! Where can you find that kind of a deal nowadays?? I 've ordered their dinner items also, but preferred the lunch deals as it comes with rice and you can select a healthier option (red rice). It 's probably one of the more relatively 'healthier ' Chinese food restaurants as I also specify no MSG and less oil. They follow those instructions because I can tell in the noodles I 've ordered before that it wasn 't greasy at all. But small caveat, when you order, make sure to let them know to clean their woks. One time, there were black 'specs ' in my food and I know it was from the wok probably not being cleaned in between each order. Ever since then, no problems whatsoever every single time thereafter. Honestly, try these guys out especially for lunch. This is their beef broccoli, and curry chicken both with red rice.
Text book dishes and friendly staff. Easy to locate and to park. Will visit again soon.
Really good food and the staff were great. Requested a patio seat, and they had it ready as soon as I arrived. I enjoyed the Zha-Jiang Mian and the spicy wontons. The spicy wontons weren't that spicy, so if you're looking for something hotter, ask for some more hot sauce on the side. The price split was about $18 each. So not bad.
Food is just ok, portions are fine but to be honest prices are too high on what you are getting..
Excellent Chinese fare in Yaletown. I liked everything, but my favorite dish, perhaps surprisingly, was the Szechuan green beans. So tasty! I also tried the sweet and sour chicken, the mapo tofu, and the Shanghai wonton soup. I have not found many places serving pork wonton soup, so this dish alone made the evening worthwhile for me. The portions are generous. The waiter was very kind and managed our table well. All in all, I really like this restaurant and would happily recommend it.
