Great vibes, fries and bbq. They have alcoholic drinks but they have no problem if you tag along a toddler while dining in. Extraordinary service from that new Irish server in town. View all feedback.
What Araceli Osinski doesn't like about Bao Down:
I have eaten here 3 times, the first time I was blown away, the food was incredible and could not wait to go back, the second time the food was good but my food was forgotten about so I ended up waiting around 25 minutes and the third time the food was incredibly average and the staff seemed more concerned about having the music on incredibly loud than the food, which was disappointing considering the price View all feedback.
Fusion bun are the best: Take the soft bun and pair them with something flavorful other than fatty pork. Bao Down does this by combining flavors across the pacific. Each of the three different bun were delicious. Each distinct and perfect in its own way. The space is small and crammed - I guess avoid peak hours. Service was friendly and, indeed, the music is not really p.c. and I can see how it might offend some conservative folks, but I did not mind. I actually applaud the baldness. Definitely coming back for more!
Small, friendly setting for delicious bao. Had 2 kinds of vegetarian bao and will return for more! Highly recommended. Friendly, helpful staff.
Was there w/a friend for lunch. I've had my share of regular Chinese baos so this was a unique take to me. I got the bao chicka bao bao and my friend got the same plus yam fries. We both loved the bao and the fries were good too. Upon first bite, the filling is amazing & very flavourful. The combination of fried lemongrass chicken, pickled veggies and sauces totally works. The hint of sweetness from the bao bread makes for a nice fusion sandwich. Portions are a bit small, snack sized so its a bit on the pricier end. The place itself has 2 floors. More seating available upstairs and the music was pretty loud. Great to try if you're visiting Gastown or up for something new.
I was only once at bao down, but would go back at any time. the fusion tacos are super tasty! there are vegetarian and even vegan options, besides those with meat. If I'm back in vancouver, I'll go back to the final.
There was no where in the joint to get away from the horrible music being played at full blast. we each had a chicken bao bun and i had the tuna and my wife another. we also shared a mango salad. the food was tasty. but if you stay and eat you have to like loud, wrap music with lyrics that are horrible.
