Although France has improved its catering for vegetarians, I am largely restricted to a diet of pizza and chips. What a breath of fresh air then, to stumble on this little cafe in the tiny hamlet of Vals. Our Dutch waitress was delightful and spoke fluent English. She accommodated our party of 6, passing pilgrims, locals and other holiday makers with ease. I was delighted to have a choice of foods, with vege tapas and salads. It was also possible to mix and match, as the salads came in 2 different sizes. I also think that this would be a wonderful place to spend a dark, winter's evening, sitting near the log burner, playing some of the board games that were available or bashing out some tunes on the piano.

Pilgrim friends I recommend the Vals café: super clean, very well equipped (but no shops in Vals), good meal and very quiet. Plus 5 star welcome

My mother and I, who are on the way to Compostela for a few days, were treated to a very warm welcome in this establishment, the sleeping area was impeccable and very pleasant, we also had a very good meal in the evening and plenty of it. breakfast in the morning! We were not able to see our hosts when we left in the morning but we thank them for their welcome. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone passing through this charming little village.

We came across this delightful place when visiting the most impressive church. Our first visit prompted us to return for lunch, the food was great value and the service friendly, in many ways is was rather like eating with friends. Would highly recommend both the church and the cafe.

We had a delicious lunch here. A menu, written on chalk board, with 2 price choices. Great salads, and entrees. Beautiful beef. Desserts out of the ordinary. And a great wine from Domain le Fort all for less than 20 euros a person. We will go back. Family run place, very friendly. The frescos on the wall are not to miss. Bravo
