My family came over for an early dinner and we had a great time inspite of Corona. Cozy atmosfere, nice wood decoration everywhere, friendly staff and good, hearty food. We had the farinheira starter, francesinhas da Pita (baked to perfection in the oven) and a jar of sangria. Nothing was absolutely perfect but the atmosfere was relaxed and cozy, everybody was happy with the meal and the final price was very reasonable. It tends to get super crowded so it is a good idea to book in advance and come early to avoid a long wait at the door.
We specifically went down to Barril for their steak. We've seen pictures all over Facebook and we were drooling back in the UK so we had to make this happen. The steaks are big! They feed 2 people, on average. I'd say more than that is a stretch. You're looking at around 1 1.2kg per steak and the price is 24eur per steak, which is reasonable! The meat is delicious and cooked to perfection on a medium rare to medium setting, I'd go for a rarer option but we have to please different audiences too! Barril is famous for their francesinha which we didn't try because steak! They're also known for their ChocoKebab which I had, but the waiter mentioned to go for the Chocolate Mousse Tart and that was pretty damn good so good I was jealous for not having it! A great visit and do have the Sangria with your steak!
The restaurante is very well decorated and gives a cozy, home like feeling,the staff is very friendly and professional. One of the best Francesinhas i have had (and i have had many) different but amazing, you will not regret having a meal at Barril. Well going out of the way to have a meal at Barril if you love Meat.
