Fonte d'Ouro was our first restaurant in the North of Portugal. Went on a Sunday afternoon and the entire restaurant was filled. However, we were greeted warmly and shown a table in the back that was just perfect. Ordered water and wine which came quickly. After ordering one fish and one pork dish our server, Rute came back to double check on how my wife wanted her meat cooked. All this with a huge crowd. When our food arrived we asked her name and she said Ruth because that was easier for English speakers to say. She took the time to give us a quick lesson in Portuguese pronunciation. We ate at the restaurant couple of more times and each meal was delicious, the wine cold and the service perfect. Each time we went Rute was giving us hints on where to go, i.e, Acores for fish and the Wednesday Market in Valenca. It will be a restaurant we will return to.
Wonderful food and really great service. The staff could not have been nicer nor more efficient. Many thanks to Rute for all her good help and information. We really enjoyed the several meals that we had here over the course of a week's stay in the area. We shall return!
