A meal so good, I coined a new phrase for it, “haute-bistro.” The chef, classically trained, opened a bistro to serve market-fresh food to the neighborhood…and now a global foodie fan club. I wish I could remember all the ingredients. Each dish was fresh, savory, comforting, and complex: steamed clam, white asparagus, and cod with turnips and potatoes. Every bite, a celebration of being alive. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
We had a lovely evening here at Hèron Petit Restaurant. Staff is very friendly, we were immediately welcomed warmly, they took our coats and showed us our seats. We chose to eat at the kitchen counter to have a direct view on the dishes being prepared. The chefs were absolutely beautiful to watch: fast, precise, clean and also very friendly with us, they liked to answer our questions and were very fun and nice. We took the 5 courses menu, which has a super convenient price (59 € pp!! considering the quality of the food, the ideas behind the dishes, and also the fact that even though the portions are not huge, we were very full at the end of the meal. Also, I totally loved the whole concept of sustainability and the regionality that marks every single ingredient served in your plate, and let you experience a variety of new flavors and emotions. Really many compliments to all the staff. For sure there is still some growth that can be done, as sometimes the dishes were very very conceptual but the taste was more interesting than super good , but anyway a great culinary and personal experience.
My wife and I had dinner at Heron Restaurant in Utrecht tonight, and the entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. The service was top notch. Warm, attentive, professional, and genuinely passionate about the food. Every course was explained beautifully, and the pacing of the evening felt relaxed and refined without ever being pretentious. The dishes were creative, elegant, and full of flavour. We especially loved the wild Wadden Sea oyster with fresh cheese, spinach, horseradish, asparagus, and Douglas fir. It was incredibly fresh with beautiful earthy and coastal flavours that worked perfectly together. Another standout was the beef tongue with smoked fish and fermented berry. A bold combination that somehow felt both comforting and adventurous at the same time. Deep, rich flavours balanced with acidity and smoke. For the main course, the lamb dishes were outstanding. The lamb rack and lamb meatball with egusi, wild garlic, and red cabbage were cooked perfectly. Tender, flavourful, and beautifully plated. The cod dish with shrimp, potato, broth, and fig leaf was delicate, refined, and packed with subtle layers of flavour. Everything tasted seasonal, thoughtful, and carefully crafted. You can tell Heron takes ingredients seriously and knows exactly how to elevate them without overcomplicating the plate. A memorable dining experience in Utrecht that feels deserving of far more recognition. We’ll definitely be back. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €50–60
It is a super friendly and delicious restaurant. We sat at the counter where you can see the chefs preparing the amazing dishes and have casual chats with them It is an amazing restaurant with amazing food but also an amazing place where you get a full experience. Vegetarian options: You can choose vegetarian options from the course menu.
Dining here is a joy for people who genuinely and unpretentiously love food and creativity. My family and I had never before experienced a menu quite like this. Everything was both original and excellent, in terms of flavour and presentation. Nothing was predictable: every dish had a delightful twist, a novel ingredient or flavour but never for the sake of it. The non alcoholic drink pairings were a particularly rewarding adventure, though the wines were also good. All this in a cosy and down to Earth atmosphere, and at a reasonable price (for a special occasion). What more could you want?
