Was Anonym at Base a mag?
Absolutely impeccable from start to finish! We had scallops and bao buns to start, followed by mussels and rack of lamb. Although slightly on the higher price bracket for Ulverston, it was well worth the money and actually when you include how good the service was, it was great value. Nice wine too! Will be returning as the rest of the menu looked great too. View all feedback.
What Jane Gidlow dislikes about Base:
I was disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. When we arrived for our reserved table, the waitress shouted something to us at the door but we couldn't hear her clearly. It turned out she was telling us to sit wherever we wanted, even though our names were on a reserved table. The food was mediocre and did not live up to the reviews we had read. Just popped in for impromptu breakfast. Absolutely delicious food and lovely friendly service.
A great experience, a beautiful setting and a restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. The service was incredible, the waiter providing information and recommendations from the menu, unfortunately can’t remember his name but he is from Newcastle, a great person with the highest level of customer service. The food……… WOW!!!! Food was amazing, the presentation was incredible and the taste was fantastic. I went for the Asian spiced pork belly to start, main of Sirloin Steak cooked to perfection and finished with Sticky toffee pudding which was beautiful too. Highly recommended, a great all round experience.
Lunch here was underwhelming. There is a claim that this is a scratch kitchen. I saw a chef carrying packets of shop-bought flatbreads from the lock up. They had a slightly stale taste. A scrape of cream cheese and a sprinkle of rocket didn’t do much to elevate the bland trencher. The smoked salmon was fine, nothing special. Something I could disappoint myself with in my own kitchen. My wife’s ham hock 2cheese was better but saltier than me right now. MiL’s prawns were ok. Kids meal was fine. Nothing was great. For £50 it was a total rip off. Service staff were lovely. Atmosphere was fine. It’s just a park cafe with notions. You’d be better off spending your money elsewhere.
