I recently had an incredible experience on a local food and bush tour. Our guide, Anthony, was remarkably knowledgeable and shared fascinating history about the First Nations people and bush foods specific to Tynong and its surroundings. Meanwhile, Julie, the talented chef, prepared delicious dishes using native ingredients. The venue features a beautifully landscaped garden, a kindergarten, and even a small museum c... Recently arranged for some plants to be sent to the hunter valley. julie went out of her to arrange cold in this difficult time. excellent and friendly service. will use it again.
A wonderful and uplifting experience!A real treat for the pallet and soul!A compelling celebration of Indigenous foods and plants that is an insight into how irreverent European settlement has been in regards to the sheer lack of respect of Indigenous women in particular and their wisdom and knowledge of the value of the native flora and it’s invaluable properties beneficial to our health.I honour Julie and Anthony for their dedication, energy and passion!YES I’m a fan!!!
Amazing learning about all of the native plants and then using them in a delicious meal!
I went to the Cooking with Native Foods course. The morning started with a tour of some of the extensive garden to harvest the foods we would cook with. Then we went to the beautifully restored schoolhouse to learn how to use these wonderful plants. Julie was exceptional, her knowledge and ability to share it in such an enthusiastic way was inspiring. The class was interactive, we were split into groups and each cooked a dish for morning tea and lunch. There was time to look over what the other groups were doing so we all learnt about all the dishes. Then we ate the delicious food. I learnt so much about the plants, about their culinary and health benefits, about how we have ignored the aboriginal knowledge refined over thousands of years that would have benefitted us so much if we had only listened. I recommend a visit to all interested in history, cooking, how to utilise plants on our doorstep and in growing their own food.I also recommend Julies book Australian Native Food Harvest a wealth of culinary, scientific, health, growing and harvesting information. So much knowledge so simply expressed.
What can you say...the beautiful gardens which honour our native trees and plants and then the meal...so beautifully cooked by Julie... flavours that cannot be described but have to be experienced to truly understand. went home with a cook book and herbs for teas and cooking. I will be back to taste some more. Thank you to the whole team.
