What User doesn't like about Smokey Sandwich Shop:
We had heard about this restaurant and decided to try it on a Friday night. It was difficult to order with the barrier of a plexiglass wall and the cashier wearing a full face mask, resulting in limited service. Customers had to pour their own drinks and get their own utensils before taking a number and finding a seat. My wife and I split the Asbury Park sandwich with Tomato Basil and French Onion soup. Fresh ingredients on toasted ho-made white bread.Place is small, come early at lunch time, popular place. Restaurant is on the right going south of 49 just before the Speak Easy, can't see it from the highway. This is a sandwich shop on steroids, not another subway type. They also make their own potato chips
Its not a BBQ spot no more but it use to be one of the best BBQ places RIP Uncle Thomas
When it first opened, Lola's was spot on in their service, attention to detail and the quality of their sandwiches. As a more expensive sandwich shop, Lola's typically hit the mark and offered a product commensurate with their pricing structure. The passage of time has not been kind to this small sandwich shop with so much potential. Our last two visits involved: 1) an hour long wait for our sandwiches, during which time at least one customer requested a refund and left in exasperation; 2) a distracted and disorganized young server struggling to take our simple order; and 3) a typically delicious sandwich that came out way too salty and just not very good. Through all of this, no one affiliated with Lola's asked anyone in the dining room about their meal or their service. These are not complaints for the sake of complaining. Rather, I'd be delighted to see this restaurant thrive and I believe it can do so with perhaps more attention from its owner/owners, its manager(s), more attention to detail for its cooks and some pointed customer service training for its wait staff. Overall, Lola's has the potential to be around for a long time as a destination sandwich shop in this area, which is desperately in need of good restaurants. If you're in the area, give Lola's a try. However, I'd recommend allowing yourself plenty of time to be served and tempering your expectations based on any glowing reviews you've heard or read. Hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised!
