The food was fantastic, but the service left much to be desired. We waited over 20 minutes before being asked for our order, and at several points, the server left before we finished discussing our choices. We ordered a few drinks, but one of them was out of stock, and the other was not what we had requested. However, the meal itself was delicious! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Hand And Sceptre:
The restaurant had only one waitress handling all the lunch service, which resulted in slow service. We ordered two vegan dishes from the vegan menu—while they were tasty, the portions were small and not worth the price. Additionally, the white wine we ordered was never served. This was my second disappointing lunch experience here, so I won't be returning. View all feedback.
It was a last-minute booking and we got exactly the time we wanted, when we turned up we were immediately shown to our table and within minutes our order had been taken. Our meal turned up in a very reasonable time and was delicious
The food was pretty good and well presented. The service however was poor part of the main course never came and the waitress blamed her colleagues. She agreed to take something off the bill as a consequence but didn’t, so I had to remind her. I didn’t leave any gratuity in the end.
Far from a memorable lunch and the Yorkshire puds need serious attention. Dry cardboard on a plate not nice. Also almost total lack of green vegetables disappointing.
The ambience and service were very good and provided a restaurant, rather than pub, atmosphere. There was quick response to our arrival and no delays of any kind. My reservation on this occasion was that it seemed that the cod in my batter (From the fish and chips I ordered) was overcooked, so that it was lacking in the usual firmness one would expect. I certainly intend to eat at the Hand and Sceptre again, however.
We love coming to this restaurant. The food is always amazing and there is a lovely atmosphere.
