What J168JFstephenw doesn't like about Number 1 Fish Chips:
The menu offered limited options and very few fresh fish dishes, most of which were battered. There were no shellfish options available. The portions were small, and I ended up choosing a prawn curry with only a small amount of rice. The food quality was decent, but not on par with the restaurant next door, Lilli Mais. This family-run fish and chip shop in Tunbridge Wells is one of the best. It is very clean and well-maintained, and offers great value for money.
Honestly, if I could give a negative rating I would. I don't even know where to start. We ordered a couple portions of chips, which were priced at an outrageous £3.20 each. The so-called LARGE portions we received were laughable, as I have received bigger portions of chips at other places. My companions agreed that the chips were tasteless, greasy, and seemed like they had been sitting in oil for weeks. I couldn't stomach more than a few chips before feeling sick. The customer service was also extremely rude, as they were speaking in Polish to another customer in the shop without realizing I understood the language. They made me wait for twenty minutes for just two portions of chips. Overall, it was a terrible experience and I will never be going back. I will also be sure to warn others to avoid this place.
Despite the good reviews in google the chips were hard not crispy and also room temperature. The sausages were very pale and there was hardly any batter on them the batter that was on the sausage was dark brown? Not golden like usual. The bread roll was stale where it had been frozen, defrosted in the microwave and then sat out on the side. Staff look very unapproachable and lack manners. And big boss talks to his daughter like she is a dog.. overall I’d rather have my mouth stapled shut.
