I've been enjoying Vietnamese cuisine for about two years now. Although I drove past Ri Le’s numerous times during my high school years, I never actually gave it a try. Last month, while visiting Tulsa from Seattle, I was accompanied by a friend who is a native of Saigon. The menu at Ri Le offered a variety of dishes that were quite different from what I've encountered at Vietnamese restaurants in Seattle. My companion had a conversation with Ri Le, who shared his background from Vietnam. She explained to me that this was the reason for the unique flavors and dishes, as he hails from a different region of the country than she does. She often takes me to places that offer a Saigon taste, while I believe Ri Le is from Central or Northern Vietnam. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and I only regret not trying it out when I lived there.
Very good Vietnamese food. Very friendly staff. Owner came out and asked us about our food and was chatty.
Who doesn't love Ri Le's? Extraordinary healthy food and served with grace and kindness. Anytime I can go, I do. This food is healing and #1 yum-yum...dine-in or take-out, you never lose.
The food is fresh, the flavors sparkle. There is an entire page of vegetarian options, including soys that are so good I get them even though I'm not vegetarian. Mr. Ri Le frequently waits tables himself, and is so gentle and charming. My favorites (I've been eating here for 30 years) are the pineapple and strawberry soys and the lumpia dogs. The lumpia dog may have started as a joke, but they're delicious. It's an eggroll with celophane noodles around a bit of hot dog. It's served with a light, tangy mustard sauce. It's unlike anything I've ever had elsewhere. I also recommend the cashew chicken and the ginger beef. The vietnamese coffee made tableside is a sweet treat. Pay attention to the calligraphy on the walls. They were all done by Ri Le and he will happily talk about them if you engage him.
