The food here is incredible! The flavors are delicious and each food item is cooked to perfection. They have some delicious taco flavors and I enjoyed the Pulpo Asada (flavored grilled octopus). I found that their cocktails are on the smaller side and didn't have as much flavor as I would have hoped.Note that it's popularity makes it quite crowded during the evening, but around lunch, there is plenty of space. What Sarah Metcalf doesn't like about Boca By Chef Maria Mazon:
The food was pretty good. It's not really a family ready place, which I wish I had known. We couldn't get a high chair so we had to take turns holding a baby. I'm not sure if it's because we had a baby or some other reason, but no one seemed like they were happy working there. Not a bad experience, but definitely not one we'll repeat with a kid, if we go back at all.Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly. No high chair o... View all feedback.
We will absolutely return! The food was outstanding, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The taco fillings were generous, and I loved the unique salsas that came with the chip and salsa flight. We probably should have taken half of the chips home, but they were so delicious that we almost finished them all! The only letdown was not getting to meet chef/owner Maria Mazon, whom we followed and rooted for on last season’s Top Chef. That’s yet another reason to come back!
I had lots of excitement to eat at BOCA based on the chef's reputation and existing reviews. I was shockingly dissapointed. I ordered three different tacos to cover my bases. Each arrived with a cold tortilla and only mildly warm interior. I was told that (at the time) their tortillas aren't made in house, but no locally sourced tortilla should be comparable to Mission tortillas, especially at the level this restaurant aims to be. The meats and garnishes were fine, but lotsof other restaurants also serve fine tacos. That said, the salsas were creative and very good, but none could save the meal. So BOCA was alright, but you could do better.
Maria Mazon Ever since we saw Maria compete on Top Chef, we have been wanting to go try her food at Boca Tacos on Fourth Avenue. Today, we took a little lunch date and had the chance to check it out. Our server was tremendously helpful at helping us select from the many awesome offerings on the menu. After enjoying our flight of homemade salsas and chips, as well as a selection of their most popular tacos, John asked if Maria was ever in the restaurant. The next thing youknow, the server brought her out to talk with us. What a warm and welcoming and genuine person! (Can we say Celebrity Chef crush?? Maria represents Tucson food and hospitality at the highest level! Besides the delicious food and service, take some time to enjoy the kitchen gardens out on on the patio, as well as the shops attached. We were excited to take home some freshly made tortillas sold to us by none other than Maria's son! Thank you, Maria and staff, for being suchamazing ambassadors for our hometown. Five stars all around for food quality, service, and affordability!
The tacos were absolutely delicious! We began with a selection of salsas that offered unique and exciting flavors, making it a lot of fun. The octopus dish was also fantastic. Unfortunately, we could only manage two tacos each, but they were packed with flavor. The service was excellent too!
Treat yourself and order the salsa flight! It’s an amazing experience, and it’s exciting to sample all the different flavors. The chips are delightful on their own! The elote is perfectly roasted and seasoned, and I loved every single taco I tried. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection, with flavor combinations that are truly out of this world.
