I am really limiting carbs and istanbul has a whole section of the menu in which no rice, pita, ir others are strengthening part of the meal. it made it so easy to choose something and the grilled garnel plate was attractive to see and taste even better! no crisp, undercooked green beans, no hard overcooked garnels was all delicious and much. Delicious eating, fast service and the personal super attentive. we will be back soon!
We visited Istanbul Mediterranean Cuisine Bar, 2945 E. Speedway Blvd., Tucson AZ 85716 in March 2022. A host greeted us and sat us right away. Food: I had never been there before and I ordered the Doner Wrap that is 80% beef and 20% lamb. The wrap was huge and I could only eat half. It was served with tzatziki sauce, which was very good, but I did not end up putting it on the sandwich since the meat was so moist and flavorful. The sandwich came with a choice of two of sides of; rice, salad or fries. I got the fries and salad. The fries seemed like they were just cooked and the salad was fresh and vibrant with a vinaigrette dressing on it. I would recommend this sandwich plate. My husband ordered the spicy chicken pita that he like very much. He said the pita bread was delicious, soft and seemed freshly made. The chicken was tossed in a sauce and also came with a side of sauce that was quite spicy hot. We also ordered baclava and the chicken lemon soup to go and both were very good. Service: The service was very good and prompt. They served the food quickly. We were in and out within 45 minutes, which is what we like. We did not feel rushed at all. Funny, I asked my husband to request more napkins and the next thing I knew was the waiter brought a stack of napkins. I asked my husband if he had signaled to the waiter, but he said he did not. So apparently, they can read minds there! The layout of the restaurant is larger booths on the right side with tables down the middle and the bar, with stools on the left. There was a part at the back that had a sign “Only for large parties” with multiple tables. Not a big restaurant. The place was very clean and the noise level was low. Parking: There is a parking lot in front of the restaurant, but additional street parking that had plenty of spaces available. The atmosphere felt more adult focused with the bar and there was not any children. The cost was very reasonable I would highly recommend going and we will return.
OK, so I ate here in February, 2022. The eggplant smash was disappointing and would not recommend. I thought it would be like babaganoush but it was not. The lemon chicken soup was the high point of my meal. Reminiscent of Greek avgolemono. Thick and tasty. I went here specifically to try the qabili palaw. Pictured on-line it looked fabulous. It was not. It was very mediocre (and I've had this kind of pulau before in Iranian restaurants). It was served with overcooked green beans and two kebab skewers. The kebabs were very good though I would have preferred dark meat. I ordered this to go and got a salad with the take out but not with my meal. The portions are indeed humongous, no complaints here. If the food had been better, I would have been happier. The food is in general mediocre. i hoped for true Turkish authenticity but did not find it here. I guess they think Americans can't take it? Caveat emptor buyer beware.
