I can't blame idle rocks. excellent management, fantastic eating and the most beautiful staff. it is rare to find a restaurant of this high standard where the staff is so friendly! if they are happy enough to go on a sunny evening and in the position to dinate alfresco, then the view over the water everywhere on the world is unmatched. they are constantly improving and are just a great team. Refused entry once again this time told residents only, yet their pavement signage stated non residents welcome. Their answer was due to staff shortages and the sign on the wall cannot be altered to suit. Refusal on two occasions was too much so we voted with our feet and cancelled our booking at their sister hotel and spent our well earned money at another independent in the town and had lovely service. The Idle Rocks restaurant in St Mawes offers a lovely and welcoming atmosphere with fantastic food. Despite some minor service hiccups like a lost booking and spilled drinks, the main waiter was great and the overall experience was very enjoyable. The new chef Dorian Janmaat impressed guests with delicious food even without a full team. The setting and food quality were consistent with previous visits, although the service was slightly less polished. Overall, the experience was first-class with attention to detail and traditional service approach. Definitely a recommended dining spot in Cornwall.

Amazing food, service and beautiful food. Such friendly service and so well looked after, would definitely return
As ever, the food and setting of The Idle Rocks was as great as ever this is now the sixth time we have eaten there. The service was not as great as ever and maybe that is due to the current challenges we are all experiencing. Our booking had been lost, there were no steak knives (three out of four of our party had steak), our drinks were spilt when being served and there was no bread. The main waiter was great and all the other staff were very good, but a lot of new faces and maybe still training. Table, drinks and food were great though and does not put us off going again, just not quite as polished as visits before very high standard they've set. Would 100% still recommend as somewhere to eat and drink.
Superb food and wine at a reasonable price, we would definitely go again when in the area
Idyllic location with excellent service. We felt the menu was slightly limited, but the food was delicious. 10 out of 10 for decor!
An outstanding venue for Sunday lunch. Great food, professional and friendly service and superb ambience. Always a good experience.

If you find yourself in Mawes (which is not a large place!), this hotel is a great spot to grab a coffee or a meal with perfect views overlooking the harbor.
During our recent trip to Cornwall, we made a reservation at Idle Rocks for Sunday lunch. This was our first time visiting St Mawes, so after a car ferry ride, we parked our car and headed to the restaurant.
We booked the night in the idle rocks. from the moment we arrived, we were treated with greatest respect. the whole place is immaculate and the love for detail flows through. the personal could not do enough. eating is excellent. a very high quality establishment and will definitely return. many thanks for an absolutely fantastic stay.
