J's Cuisine - Troy
J's Cuisine
Description
Under new ownership this small, elegant neighborhood spot earns praise for superb hot-and-sour soup, fragrant jasmine tea, friendly proprietors, vegan choices and generous portions — ideal for quick dine-in or carryout. But recent price hikes, the removal of complimentary soup and the kids menu, plus occasional off flavors and inconsistent service, temper the enthusiasm. Expect solid entrees and reliable doggy bags, though families looking for a kids menu or spotless consistency may be disappointed.

It seems that new owners have taken over. The prices are quite high now. They've removed the soup that used to be included with the meal. I tried the vegetable beef, but I found the beef had a strange flavor. The restaurant on Dorset is much better.
Tonight, I called to place a carryout order that included a kids meal, and the owner/manager informed me that they hadn't offered a kids menu for over a year and had eliminated it. It's one thing to remove a kids menu, but I felt misled when he said it was gone for so long. We've visited several times this summer, and my daughter has ordered from the kids menu every single time. This experience has been disappointing!
We had an excellent experience with both the food and service! The meals were quick and fresh, and they offered some delightful vegan options as well. This has officially become our new favorite restaurant! Dietary preferences: Vegan-friendly.
This review has nothing to do with the quality of the food or the service or the atmosphere. I popped in today, wanting something spicy because I have a head and chest cold. I arrived about 2:57 p.m. which is just before the lunch hour and. There were two servers sitting at a booth chatting another lady was watching something on her pad, and the host is set behind the cash register. There were no customers. At 3:00 the guy asked me if I'd like anything to drink I tell him what I'd like. And then I asked if I can have the lunch menu prices. When he looked up at the clock it was 3:01 p.m. and he said no. As a businessman myself, I'd rather keep a client that's 2 minutes before the end of business for lunch prices then serve no one at all. That's all. Maybe just use some common sense. I've been here before and everything's always been wonderful.
