The view on the cathedr... read more On a sunny day we had an aperitif at the pavement cafe of Walderdorffs on the square in front of the cathedral (‘Domfreihof’ in German). The view on the cathedral, the adjoining Liebfrauenkirche and the historic buildings facing the square was absolutely fantastic. Later we had dinner inside, in the stylish Walderdorffs restaurant. The menu covered a fair range of options. We went for a simple grilled steak and a ribeye with chips. They both looked good, but the ribeye wasn’t nice. It was really chewy and lacking in taste. We weren’t too pleased either with the fact that the side salad we ordered was served on the plate, next to the meat. Service was friendly. Prices seem to be a bit on the high side for Trier. We definitely wouldn’t go back to Walderdorffs for food, but their pavement cafe was our favourite in Trier.

Das Lokal hat etwas muffig gerochen, wahrscheinlich waren am Vorabend viele Gäste da und wurde der Raum nicht gelüftet. Naja, kann ja mal passieren... Es dauerte ziemlich lange, bis mal eine Bedienung zu uns kam. Die Gäste am Tisch neben uns, sahen auch schon ungeduldig aus, da war scheinbar auch noch keine Bedienung vorbeigekommen, obwohl sie schon vor uns da waren. Das Angebot an Kuchen war nur sehr beschränkt, obwohl in der Karte stand, das es außer den Tagekuchen auch noch verschiede andere Sorten Kuchen gibt. Doch dem war leider nicht so. Die Qualität von Kuchen und Kaffee waren allerdings ganz ok.

Unfortunate coincidence for this particular employee for such a store in such a location
