Description

The Ship Inn, located at the southern tip of the Isle of Dogs on Westferry Road, is a charming traditional pub with a rich history dating back to 1835. Thought to have been created by joining two houses together, it has remained a pub throughout its entire existence. Just next door at Burrells Wharf, Isambard Kingdom Brunel launched the Great Eastern steam ship in 1858, and legend has it he may have enjoyed a cold beer at The Ship Inn after a long day’s work. Today, this independently run local pub offers a wide selection of ice-cold beers, traditional ales, fine wines, and seasonal cocktails. From Tuesday to Sunday, guests can enjoy delicious homemade sourdough pizzas crafted from the finest seasonal ingredients. The menu changes regularly to keep things fresh and exciting. The Ship Inn is also the perfect spot for sports enthusiasts, featuring three large screen televisions showing all the major games. For those who enjoy a bit of fun and competition, the pub offers a large variety of board games, a lively pub quiz every Sunday at 8pm, and a poker night every Monday. With three comfortable rooms available in Canary Wharf, The Ship Inn combines traditional charm with modern convenience. It is ideally situated with excellent transport links nearby, including Mudchute DLR Station, the Jubilee Line via the DLR at Canary Wharf, Thames Riverbus at Masthouse Terrace Pier, and several bus routes stopping directly outside. Travel times to key locations make The Ship Inn an accessible and welcoming destination: just 10 minutes to Canary Wharf, The O2, and Greenwich; 15 minutes to the Excel Centre; and 20 minutes to the City, Liverpool Street Station, and City Airport. For a perfect blend of history, hospitality, and location, The Ship Inn stands out as a must-visit pub in London.

Myself and four friends visited last Sunday for lunch after being told that the food was amazing. I've had the pizza there and it never fails to disappoint, well the Sunday lunch didn't disappoint either. Choice of pork belly, beef, chicken and vegetarian options. I had the pork belly and it was wonderful, the crackling was fabulous, the meat fell away. There's a great choice of beers and friendly staff too.

I just get out from “The Ship Inn” pub and I never had so bad service from a manager like I just had with this Bar Manager, Andrew (I ask for is name). Me and my boyfriend moved to isle of dogs and we are attending this pub which is close to our house. I would like to say to the owner of this establishment to pay more attention about how the manager treats his staff and his guests. I was never served with such arrogance and lack of education. I asked for his name to be sure that someone will do something. Thanks

We walked in to the pub because we had heard such good things. However, our experience was anything but! The staff asked us if we had a booking for two adults and the two five year olds we were with. When we responded no, they said they couldn’t possibly take any more covers due to a technical issue. The pub was empty with only two tables reserved. When we were upset about this, they just said it wasn’t their fault and became quite aggressive. As we were leaving, one of the ladies behind the bar swearing at us in earshot of our children. When we got home, I kindly called the pub asking to speak to the manager. I was refused and told she already spoke to us. That is when I decided to share my experiences.

This is a Pub mainly visited by locals but everyone with every culture or background is welcome in this pub. It is so easy to get in touch with people because of the diversity. The interior is quite old fashioned which I like. They show all kinds of Sports on 3 screens and have a beer garden at the back of the pub in the summer. Choices of Drinks is good. They have an artisan Pizza which is freshly made in front of you. Not at the back. You can watch the Chef creating and baking your own creation. The Pizza is great. It is probably the best on the Isle of Dogs and in a radius of a lot of miles. They also offer Sunday Roast, a pub quiz Sunday evenings which is a lot of fun. They also offer three rooms accommodation B&B based. Staff is always friendly, attentive and helpful. Great pub to watch Football, have a Pizza or just do random Pub Talk.
