Located in the heart of Brick Lane, this restaurant offers a dive into authentic Bangladeshi cuisine that resonates with locals seeking a taste of home. While the menu boasts an impressive range of traditional dishes, including rare finds like brain curry and hilsa fish egg, diners should be prepared for reheated food and a casual, sometimes unprofessional service. Prices are incredibly affordable, making it a popular stop for those prioritizing taste over ambiance. Though some reviews caution against the inconsistently cold and bland dishes, true culinary adventurers may find hidden gems amidst the imperfections, ensuring a nostalgic experience for many.

Was NoelofCroydon at Amar Gaon a mag?
The food at this restaurant is not cooked on-site, but rather prepared elsewhere and reheated in a microwave for dine-in orders. Despite this, the cuisine is undeniably delicious and authentic Bengali. The Chicken Jalfrezi was outstanding, and the Brain masala was superb! View all feedback.

What syedumorali dislikes about Amar Gaon:
Dinner with a family friend have not catch up for few months. Food was good, as you expect from authentic Bengali cuisine. MY HATE FOR ANYONE JUST ASK FOR CASH PAYMENT WITHOUT ANY SIGNAGE. VERY POOR PRACTICE. View all feedback.

Had dinner twice. It was a short walk from the place where we stayed. Excellent food. If you want to have a taste of real Bangladeshi food, must go there. They have varieties of items. Go for any of the fishes. Remember that real Bangladeshi food is spicy.

As always this place is a gem for authentic Bangladeshi cuisine. A nostalgic experience for many latter generations of Bangladeshis like myself, who for many reasons, lack such original culinary skills. The food is amazing. Slightly more on the spicy side to your average curries hence caution is advised. This is a no thrills restaurant. It’s a hub for local Bangladeshi’s (explains the ‘foreign’ TV channels mentioned by other reviewers). Service is average/good They do not accept plastic huge inconvenience. Will continue to be a frequent haunt for me.

As the title suggests, this is a takeaway (I believe delivery also) with food on display in the chiller cabinets at the front, and tables inside so that you could sit and eat in. It's pretty basic no Wifi nor charging points and TV set to some foreign channel. They don't serve beer but suggested I could get some cans from over the road, and I also found they don't take plastic I had to nip out to the cashpoint first! Despite me being shown to a table, it wasn't obvious that I had to head back up to the counter to order my meal; there's no menus and no prices. Out of the two curries on display, I went for the darker lamb curry as that was supposedly spicier over the chicken, but I could have had either. When my order was taken other dishes were upsold I was happy with just the curry and bread, but was persuaded to have some pakoras whilst I waited (which were nice but not much accompanying chilli sauce) The curry wasn't bad: thick, rich and indeed had a nice burn to it. I found the chapattis a bit thick and stodgy, perhaps from being reheated. The veg dish was odd, somewhat bland I expected it to be a good Bombay aloo but felt like it was a potato and veg stew. There was also a side dish of onions and tomatoes with a slice of lime, refreshing but a bit watery. In all it filled a hole and sufficed for that evening but I felt the bill was a bit of a rip off (especially when nothing's priced). Also the staff seemed disinterested in the diner's experience so I don't think I'll return there again.

Best of authentic Bengali cuisine in the heart of London for both Indian and Bangladeshi Bengalis. Very affordable and excellent variety. If one concentrates on food and not so much on sauve or posh locality or decoration or space then this should be your choice. Variety and affordability are the two key special points here..
