Slackers Burger Joint - Torrey
Slackers Burger Joint
Description
Slackers in Torrey is a charming, old‑fashioned burger-and-shake stop known for hearty burgers, standout shakes and convenient parking with shaded patio seating and wheelchair access. Loyal visitors praise friendly, often fast service, but experiences vary: some report long lines, cleanliness problems, inconsistent cooking, allergy mishandling and surprise add-on charges. Expect a casual, tourist-friendly spot with good ice cream and mixed reliability depending on timing and staff.

I stopped by Slackers on my way out of Torrey for some ice cream. The staff were incredibly polite and friendly. The ice cream was delicious, and the ambiance was delightful. The decor, featuring license plates from all the states, added a unique touch. I would definitely return if I find myself in Torrey again.
Slacker 's has earned its local reputation for consistently good burgers, friendly and fast service, and fair prices. Now there 's ice cream, too. Outdoor patio shaded seating a fine bonus on temperate days. I visit Torrey 2-3 times a year, and this is a new must stop for reliable daytime food.Vegetarian options: I think severalKid-friendliness: Easy for kids, booth seating ideal.Parking: Easy, safe off and back on to hwy 24.Wheelchair accessibility: Yes...and I have family eyes for this.
For dessert, I tried the fudge brownie milkshake made with a chocolate base, which had chunky brownie pieces mixed in. It might have contained nuts as well. Overall, it's a charming mom-and-pop establishment that accepts major credit cards. Our total bill for two, including tip, came to just over $44. My brother ordered the mushroom Swiss cheeseburger and had no trouble finishing it.
The place is all around bad!! Their business model is severely flawed. People go here thinking it should be a reasonably price burger establishment only to learn that the intent with this place is to nickel and dime you for every little detail. Including charging you for a water cup even though they are charging $15+ for mediocre burgers. Definitely not the best burger place out there but they think they can charge like they are. We watched and listened as each new group of customers would come to the counter and arrive at the same level of disgust for how this places prices their food and then tries to upcharge for everything. And then the audacity to ask for a tip on top of it all. Let's send a message people, stop supporting businesses that want to rip off consumers. Eat someplace else that values you as a customer and isn't just trying to get every last nickel they can out of you. This place is one of the worst out there!!!
This burger joint has been in Torrey for a long, long time. We eat there quite regularly while on our yearly visit to that area. It's got an old-fashioned vibe and it is a hang out for tourists from all over the world. There is indoor and outdoor seating. SBJ is definitely not chain restaurant fast food. The menu boasts various types of burgers and food. The shakes and malts are a particular favorite. My recommendation is to stop in and enjoy.
