What User doesn't like about Torquay Thai:
We ordered the mixed entree and tom yum soup and we were really impressed. It was tasty and had the intensity of flavours you expect with Thai food. The tom yum was really good - nice and spicy and sour just like it should be.But then we got our main course - Pad Thai and Green Curry. we had specifically asked for it to be spicy but it was bland, bland, bland. All I could taste was coconut milk and palm sugar - absolu... I went to this restaurant when visiting friends who live in Jan Juc. As a local this is where they take friends for a great meal and I'm so glad they took me. The food was fantastic, especially the whole blue grenadier, deep fried crispy batter and light, tasty fish. We sat on the Thai cushions which added a bit of fun to the night. For 7 people, dinner and drinks cost just over $200 and we were all very satisfied. I'm looking forward to another visit next time I'm in town.
This Thai restaurant is easily situated on Torquays foreshore in easy walking distance from the caravan park, lots of free parking. The food was tasty and generous serves all at reasonable rates and also the freedom of a BYO restaurant Happy Eating from the Happy Traveler
If you want just really good, traditional "old school" Thai at a great price with fantastic service then you cant go past Torquay Thai - always our favourite. Sure other places have better decor, or more unusual dishes but this is just the way it has always been - great food, great value - not a bowl of sauce and you go fishing for the meat as in other Thai places.
My husband and I went for dinner with my 2 year old in tow, on a rather cold and rainy day. The food was faultless and the service made the whole experience even better. The owner/manager was great, chatty and actually made an effort to entertain my son while we finished our meals in peace - he still chats about the lights and the elephants he saw at the 'Thai dinner'. We were in Torquay three nights, and I went back for a takeaway meal on our last night - once again the food (basil stir-fry) did not disappoint.
