What User likes about Gale's Snack Bar:
The prices are right out of the sixties, which I think was the last time the place was cleaned. Ignore the greasy dust on most surfaces. It does have a City of Toronto green "pass" sign in the window so I trust the kitchen is cleaner. Typical 60s diner fare. Everything comes with fries and the gravy is from a tin.We went in for a snack. A chocolate milkshake with pie and ice cream was $3.00.I asked about their least... View all feedback. I have lived and also worked nearby since the early '80s. We have eaten at Gales numerous times and our meal here last month proved that little has changed, unlike the fast-gentrifying neighbourhood. You won't have to wait long to be seated at this tiny eatery. The movie 'Hairspray' shot some of its scenes here, with Christopher Walken's character running his joke shop on these premises. read moreGales is a throwback gem in a fast-changing neighborhood, with prices and service reminiscent of the '60s. Despite some cleanliness concerns, the food is decent and the atmosphere nostalgic. The owner, Dave, is friendly, and the place is a hangout spot for film industry folks. Although service can be slow due to limited staff, the experience is worth it for the unbeatable prices and classic diner feel. A must-visit for those seeking a taste of old-school Toronto charm.
