I love pan fried pork dumplings. They are a food group on their own. I have now found the best in the GTA! And they are just around the corner. Try them with crushed chillies in chilli oil. OMG.Oh yes, their other food is also great.
This is a brand new restaurant in Long Branch, opened only a few months ago. I won't comment on their decor because I can tell they're still trying to find themselves. The hostess who is also the waitress is really great, she's polite and very personable, she answered the phone promptly when I called to make a reservation (no need for reservations BTW) and even thanked me for calling. The only reason I gave this new business only 3 stars is because they do not have any vegetarian dishes, even the dishes that "look" vegetarian on their menu, have meat or fish sauce. When I ordered a tofu dish, I asked them to make sure it's totally vegetarian, it came back with floating chunks of pork.I will keep asking for at least one dedicated veggie option and will update my review next time I dine there.
Went to a popular chinese take out on lakeshore and kipling, only to see a new restaurant next door. Restaurant has identity problem with decor, kinda 70s style but some strange out of era paintings and tables...Owner needs to decide what feeling he wants to present.. anyway..we did a taste test..ordered food from Mai and ordered the Combo for 3 from this place which included 6 spring rolls, chicken wings, choice of kung pao chicken or sweet and sour chicken, and sizzling chicken in black petter and thai style fried rice for 29.95..a little too much chicken for me, so she changed it to beef for 2.00 more. At home, no one waste told what came from which restaurants but the difference was very evident in the quality, superb blend of spices, nice take out containers and variety.. The dumpling Melody bistro was everyone favourite and we will definately return.
I have gone to this place five times : it is in the neighborhood, it is a new business, the people are very pleasant and happy to see the patrons come in the door. It is apparent that this place is not doing great business, it has a pretty steady Chinese restaurant right next door, in fact they share a wall. I like the music motif with all all album covers sitting around, it's kind a kitschy but is cool. That being said, the food is positively horrible, it's not a question of ethnic food being unusual to a westerner. I've had traditional Chinese food and I know I can be extremely tasty but the quality is really low down at this place. I had a general chow chicken and the chicken was actually little bits of fat, not white chicken meat as one would be used to. The spring rolls were ice cold you could see the crystals when I bit into them. There's no care taken in the cooking at all. This is a kind of curious thing because the waitress works very hard to make sure the patrons are served well. I would like to say I love this place and support it because of its locality to my house however I cannot recommend this place, the Mai Mai restaurant next-door serves up a pretty adequate Chinese food if you're looking for something, I recommend the chili chicken with vegetables.
