I love Persian food and am thrilled when restaurants cater to vegetarians like myself. They make a delicious Mushroom Fesanjan, which is totally worth every bite. Definitely recommend! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Darvish Persian Restaurant:
We decided to try a Persian restaurant whilst we were visiting Toronto, having eaten in many in the UK. The food, whilst being mostly authentic Persian, was ok – nothing special, but ok. I was however surprised that the koobideh kebabs were beef – authentic kebabs are traditionally made from lamb. However they were pleasant enough. The owner/proprietor was very strange - sitting in the corner watching tv on her laptop... View all feedback.
This was my first visit to a Persian restaurant. My colleague who is of Persian descent took us to this place and I was not disappointed. The space has a Persian feel to it. The server seated us to our table and gave us a basket of complimentary Persian bread.I ordered the chicken shish kabob and my colleague ordered the lamb shank. They were both delicious. The portions were huge and I walked back home with a full stomach!Recommended!
For some people, their first impression of a restaurant is how it looks, whether it’s the establishment’s store front or an initial glimpse of the dining room. For me, a more important impression is how the place smells, the sense that intrigues my nose about things to come. Upon entering Darvish, it was the first thing that struck me – all the spices melding together with a faint smoky meat scent. Sure, their colourful tablecloths were nice, but that’s secondary.<br/ <br/ Most of the heavenly aromas must come from Darvish’s stews. When our aubergine stew or bheymeh bademjoon $16.99) was set on the table, it certainly made me inhale deeply, a calm yoga breath. You really can’t go wrong with a hearty dish spooned over the basmati rice, where the tomato sauce has a hint of citrus thanks to dried lime, which keeps it light while the split peas helps to thicken the sauce. The meat wasn’t immensely tender for veal, but good enough. I only wished there was more eggplant especially since the stew was named after it), as the vegetable absorbed many flavours and I wish there was more than one piece. <br/ <br/ Make sure to choose the saffron barberry rice if you’re getting a kabob as despite looking regular basmati topped with cranberries, it's certainly more flavourful thanks to being cooked in saffron liquid. You’ll need the extra spice as
In April 2017, my friends and I visited Darvish for our first taste of Persian food. Located near Wellesley station, this family-owned restaurant proudly claims to be the first Persian restaurant in Toronto. We started with the 'Mirza Ghazemi' dip served with warm Persian bread, which was homely and comforting but lacked spice. For my main course, I tried the 'Fesenjoon', a walnut and pomegranate stew with chicken served with Barberry rice. The dish was surprisingly delicious, with a sweet taste complemented by the tartness of the barberries in the rice, although it could have used more chicken pieces. My friends ordered the Chicken and Lamb Shish Kebab, which was well-cooked but needed more seasoning, and the Lamb Shank, which was tender and flavorful. Overall, while I enjoyed my meal at Darvish, I wished for more robust flavors in the dishes.
I tried three different dishes here and I loved the kobide kabob more than lamb shank and ghormeh sabzi but depends on your taste in comparison to other Persian restaurant I rate darvish as an average but its in downtown and its more convenient for people who lives in downtown toronto
Darvish is a delightful dining experience. The cozy ambiance and wide array of delectable dishes make for a satisfying meal. The authentic Persian cuisine and friendly service create a warm and inviting atmosphere. I highly suggest trying this restaurant, as it is sure to leave you feeling content - although be prepared for a potential food coma afterwards!
