What User doesn't like about The Pelican Cafe:
Came here for takeaway fish and chips, they took our order and gave us our drinks and then proceeded to leave the counter, after we had waited for 20 minutes we asked how long our food would be and we were left with a blank expression from the server, he then said that they were just waiting on the chips, when we questioned why we had not been told when we ordered that there would be such a wait he said ‘I didn’t kno... The food was disgusting, the service was awful, the staff was rude, and the accommodations were terrible. I would never eat there again and would not recommend it to anyone. This restaurant should be condemned.
This cafe is excellent! The chips are cooked to order, the fish is good and hot, and they serve the best whippy ice creams at a good price. Joy, the owner, is friendly and happy to help. The young lads working there are also very helpful and friendly. We visited more than once while on holiday here. Another plus is that the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. I don't understand the negative reviews as the food is cooked fresh for you, not sitting in oil drying up. Thank you, Joy, and your lovely staff!
This restaurant is not even worth a 1 out of 5 rating. I waited 20 minutes for chips, tea, and curry sauce for take away. The tea arrived but there was still no food. There was only one person waiting in front of me. When I saw his food arrive, I wished I hadn't ordered. They realized they hadn't cooked enough chips, so they put half a box in the warmer and more in the fryer, which they kept saying wasn't working. When I asked for a refund, I got a torrent of abuse from an old man who told me to go home. One of the young servers repeated this. I mentioned leaving a TripAdvisor review, but they claimed they weren't listed on TripAdvisor. Avoid this place at all costs. They do not deserve to be in business.
Avoid, rotten attitude, chips were edible but £5.95 for 6 pieces of scampi is ridiculous…. Took ages to cook and the young lad serving seriously needs to change his job as is clearly fed up. I’m local but won’t be returning.
I visited here with my mother and both of us have to agree that this was the best fish and chips we've ever had! Not only was the food delicious, the cafe was spotlessly clean and staff were so lovely...Really friendly and polite and instantly made us feel welcome. The food was hot and fresh, beautifully presented and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend this place!
