Went there as a change from our usual breakfast cafe, was quite busy inside but clean. Food came out quickly and service good. Overall thought the breakfast was okay but smaller portion and more expensive then our usual. Produce seemed good quality but poached egg was very vinegary. Might go back in going to the farm but not for food alone View all feedback.
What OldPos1956 doesn't like about Occombe Farm Cafe:
This cafe sitting above the farm shop was far from busy on the Tuesday we visited for lunch, yet service was far from quick, albeit staff were very friendly. Not a huge range of hot food on the menu but enough to offer a reasonable choice and the was freshly prepared with good portion size and quality. The prices are not cheap so more akin to a pub meal than a quick “cafe” bite. Having said that all four plates of fo... View all feedback.
I had a lovely lunch today with my family. I had a beef baguette which was very tasty. We sat outside and relaxed in the sun. Good food, lovely surroundings....Will be back.
We called here after seeing good reviews. Unfortunately, we found it quite underwhelming. We have a dog, and while welcome inside it is a small area just on the left. On a nice day you would sit outside but if you needed to go inside the space is limited. All the other tables in the dog area were taken by people without dogs, so again, you might not get a seat. We had a farm breakfast and a vegan breakfast, neither was hot and certainly not on my list of top breakfasts. Staff are young, but no one appeared happy to be there. True, it was busy and we had to wait a while for our food but it was not worth the wait. While I am not tempted to make a return visit, it will appeal to those with young families because of the farm
Stupidly followed my satnav through the back lanes of Cockington to get there, some only inches wider than the car then when I got there found that it's virtually on the main road up from the end of the Devon Highway. Went in through the Farm Shop, and eventually found the Cafe up some stairs. No signs telling me what to do so after sitting at the table for a while i asked a passing server and found out that I had to order at the counter. I was ignored for a few minutes while the person behind the counter mucked about with a complicated Italian Espresso machine. Eventually I placed my order for the Barn Breakfast (one of everything). After about 15 minutes it arrived together with a pot of tea and a dirty cup instead of the mug of tea I'd asked for. Went in search of knife, fork, napkin which are on the table by the window. The toast is on top of the breakfast with no sideplate so the table is used for buttering. Went off again in search of some butter which I found. Let's look at the breakfast item by item. 1.The Toast: Soggy due to sitting on top of a hot breakfast under a heat lamp. 2.The Sausage: Decent quality but had been deep fried to an even dark brown all over then left somewhere to dry out and go wrinkly. 3.The Bacon: Good quality and nicely cooked. 4.The Baked Beans: Definitely not Heinz and absolutely salt free disgusting. 5.Half a Tomato: Nicely grilled. 6.Mushrooms:Shrivelled and dried out. 7.Hash brown Apart from the fact a hash brown should never be in an English breakfast it's a McDonalds item this was a standard deep fried frozen thing. Truly horrible. 8.Poached Egg:The highlight beautifully cooked yellow yoked poached egg. I suspect the breakfast had been left, after plating up, under a heat lamp, waiting for one of the (not enough) servers to bring it to the table. At something around £12.50 it was utterly underwhelming and I left at least half of it. Would I go back? No.
Place has good parking , large camper , it was very clean and lovely views , staff where attentive and efficient and pleasant friendly in manor. Food produce was good , coffee was nice and cakes looked good . Good for family with children big play area .
We decided to stop by on a Tuesday and we are so happy we did! The frittata was visually stunning and tasted delicious. I would highly recommend returning just for that dish. It is nice that you can see a variety of food options on display near the cash register. It is clear that the chef puts a lot of care into the food they prepare.
