Visited here on the recommendation of an article in the Sydney Morning Herald about the choice of Sri Lankan food in this western Sydney suburb of Toongabbie, which is in Sydney NSW and not Victoria as listed in the address.Located opposite the railway station with plenty of street parking, the eatery has a takeaway counter at the entrance with seating in an adjacent room. I had the Masala Dosa listed on the menu board. The server encouraged me to add dishes to the order which I didn't mind but being alone decided to stay with the requested order. The dining area is quite basic with steel tables and chairs and a holder for cutlery and napkins placed at each table. There is also a water cooler with disposable tumblers which is a good idea as often water is the best accompanying beverage for vegetarian and spicy food. The dosa was served crisp with 2 coconut based accompaniments and a sambar( lentil based watery soup). Serving size was generous however the crispiness of the dosa did not keep while eating which was a bit disappointing. The takeaway counter offered a reasonable choice of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes together with rice, string hoppers and roti.

Delicious quality curry with a large range of foods to choose from. Also, great value and generous helpings. This restaurant draws a popular crowd!
So I visited the Dish last night and to ensure the authenticity I went with my girlfriend .. Who's got a Sri Lankan background and she totally vouches for this place. The place didn't have the best of interior decor or service .. But the food easily makes up for it. So as I understand it .. On weekends they have the buffet option with a wide variety of subcontinental items to choose from .. With emphasis on srilankan and Indian cuisine. The hoppers were delicious, as was the goat biriyani and to complement it were several different curries ranging from egglplants to crabs. And to top it off there was the wide variety of desserts and needless to say they were all reminiscent of subcontinental sweets, the likes of watalappan ( a Sri Lankan pudding dipped in honey ) to traditional custards and even ice creams for the less adventurous types. Overall the experience was overwhelmingly positive, will definitely go back again, it's only downside being its location, and it's a fair drive from the city.
While touring Sydney, we were taken by a friend to this restaurant which he described as serving good Sri Lankan food. The Dish as it is popularly known, is situated in Toongabbie which is about 30km west of Sydney close to Parramatta. Owned by a Sri Lankan, The Dish is an average looking restaurant which also has a separate take away counter where you can choose from a wide range of already cooked dishes on display. On weekends they have a buffet with wide variety of sea food, meats and vegetable curries which cost around A$20/- per person.Since our visit was on a week day, we chose from the take away counter which costed us A$8/- per person for a plate of Rice+3 vegetables + 1 Meat/Fish. To eat this in the restaurant they charge extra A$1/50 per person. The food was 100% authentic Sri Lankan and was quite tasty. The portions were quite generous and was real value for money. Apart from the rice and curries they also serve favourite Sri Lankan short eats like Fish Buns, Chinese Rolls, Godamba Roti as well as string hoppers etc. They also serve a variety of Indian dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Dish restaurant, so much so we went there a second time a few days later. The results were the same and this time we also took with us some buns, rolls and wadais to eat later which too tasted quite good. Hence I would highly recommend this restaurant "DISH" to anyone who is looking for tasty authentic Sri Lankan food which are also reasonable in prices.
