A bit of a drive but worth it Family run, polite staff, very good food and even better wine Just a bit crowd noisy...
This is a family run restaurant with no menu. The dishes are served from large platters, I lost track of the number of courses we ate but everything was really good and generous portions, It is a fantastic experience to eat in a restaurant like this, the perfect example of the local traditional restaurant with authentic food that we all dream about finding. The food is made and served by the family in their own kitchens with pride and love. Worth going out of your way to experience
This is a typical italian style trattoria...it's family run and everything you eat is made by the old lady in the kitchen. The ingredients are traditional and genuine and the atmosphere is like being at your grandma for a sunday lunch! It' s always busy but they can always find you a table in 5 minutes! Don' t forget to visit the shop across the street, owned by the same family... Where you can take home some of the tasty food that they make!
I have been going to this Trattoria for about 10 years and the food is superb. There is no menu as such. You start with a variety of antipasti followed by a choice of pasta. Then comes a choice of meat dishes such as veal milanes or roast Rabbit both lovely. This comes with lovely fried potatoes. The pasta is home made every day.If you have any room left they always have some simple deserts.Coffee is good and comes with digestivos on the house.Just to add the house white is very good but the red is a bit rough!
You enter the restaurant and get the same feeling entering the village of Tonengo. You have been traveling back in time, at least 40 years. Maybe more. You may consider the place minimal, the service sufficient, the ambience essential, the food presentation primitive. Exactly as it was in a village restaurant two generations ago. But The food is good, they do their own salamis, appetizers are in line with Piedmont tradition. Fritto misto is a just bit heavy, as it was supposed to be in the past. Desserts as well. It is part of the game. The way cosciotto cooked in oven is prepared and presented is very historical, but efficient and portions can get larger and larger. Very essential wine (list), menu read by the waiter. Everybody extremely kind. Prices unbeatable. Cheap. You were looking for a culinary museum? This is the place. You won 't be crestfallen.
