What a lovely place! We had the most amazing Thai lentil soup; it had just the right amount of spice, combined with coconut, and was wonderfully sweet. They also offered vegan options and two decadent cakes! I returned in the morning to confirm the vegan soup, and the girl there was so lovely. She made sure we had two dishes ready for our return at lunch (which we confirmed). View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Darwin's Cafe Temporarily Closed:
Simple cafe with vegan options like soup and smoothies and Almond milk for hot drinks. I went at a ten o clock after breakfast so I didn't eat anything just grabbed a drink. I would like to warn visitors that are vegan like myself that there is a dead puffer fish almost trophied in the cafe and I found it quite disturbing, some others might to. We had the red curry soup, lemon kospie and coffee. everything was delicious! They also have another vegan dish on the menu that we don't get. the vegan dishes are marked on the menu and all drinks can be made vegan with soy or mandel milk. the hours here are a little deceived, they are open to sunset I believe, but the kitchen is only open until 3. so after 3 they can still get coffee and cake. I would also recommend to visit the botanical gardens in front of location, really beautiful and picturesque

I would like to warn visitors that are vegan like myself that there is a dead puffer fish almost trophied in the cafe and I found it quite disturbing, some others might to. However if you are in the botanical gardens for a day out I'm sure this would be great for lunch as they had a really nice looking vegan Thai curry soup with lentils and spinach so really it is your call!
The cafe is lovely, however the ownership has changed in 2014 and is no longer as vegan or gluten-free friendly as previous reviews mention. They could not say for certain if the bread was vegan but it is not gluten-free. Still was able to veganize some menu items but not worth going out of the way for an easy vegan meal.
I go to Tofino every 2 years or so and never knew this existed. While I was there this past May with friends, one of them managed to find this place online so we checked it out the day before we left. We were not disappointed! Most things on the menu were vegan, all things vegetarian, and they had amazing vegan double chocolate raspberry cookies! It was so good we went back again for breakfast the next morning before we left! The atmosphere was really laid back and neat with cool books and a cute dog named Pete. Careful! If not paying attention he may try to steal your food. : There were also baby ducks and chickens outside the window that were adorable to watch. A happy breath of fresh air for me! I'll be back on my next trip!
